Thread: Are we men really that rare?

Male image designers arent that rare, I met several male avatars on my server that came to me for lessons. As for gender benders, I think you are all men. In fact I have developed a fail safe guide as how to tell if that female avatar you are schmoozing is really a man in real life. This was based upon my observations since beta 1 SWGand other MMORPG's:

1.) Does she have max torso and max skinny? If yes, she just might be a dude!

2.) When she goes out to hunt with you, does she wear: An exotic leotard, a fleshwrap, hot pants and a bikini top in place of rugged clothing or armor? If yes, she might me a dude!

3.) Does she reinforce her "woman-hood" by telling you out of character, that her "monthly friend" has arrived, has a boyfriend/husband over and they are fooling around, is playing with feminine parts of her anatomy? If yes, she might be a dude!

4.) Does she refer to her underwear as panties in terms other than buying them? Example:"I just messed my panties..." If yes, she might be a dude!

5.) Does she cyber with you on the first day? If yes, she might be a dude!

6.) Does she try "too hard" to act feminine? Example: generous use of "feminine" emotes in situations where they are unwarrented, like Sublevel 3 of the Warren surrounded by crazed mutant cyborgs? If yes, she might be a dude!

7.) Is she willing to marry your avatar after 3 days of knowing each other (this is assuming you arent a couple irl already and you have no relationship with said avatar other than the SWG game)? If yes, she might be a dude!

8.) Does she tell you when you image design her jaw, "that adding a jawline makes her look manly?" If yes, she might be a dude!

9.) Is she is zabrak, and still can't come to grips that she will never have a full head of hair to reinforce her "woman-hood?" If yes, she might be a dude!

10.) Is she a Master Dancer that always uses Exotic 4 and 80% of the time AFK, and the other 20% is spent flirting and whoring for credits? If yes, she might be a dude!

11.) Is she a rebel? If yes, she might be a dude!

12.) Is she an Imperial because she had the foresight to understand that rebel women might be dudes? If yes, she might be a dude! k I thought this was funny:

and finally:

13.) Is she mindlessly grinding through the entertainer professions because of a silly holocron? If yes, she might be a dude!

Oh, and fix the entertainer profession....

There is no way to really know if the person behind the avatar is a dude or a real female unless they out and out tell you. but since china so "kindly" decided this was a "Fail safe guide", just like to point out that these points Fail...my avatar fits these 2 perfectly, i max'd her torso and took her weight to 0 and is a rebel. but is a rebel because i chose to play a non-human. and to fit starwars storyline since i do like to RP ingame, those who know starwars know non-humans are treated horribly by the empire. so the only reasonable choices arethe rebellion or neutrality. All this aside who really cares what gender a person is behind the avatar? I mean unless you try to hook up irl after playing the game together.

Dudes have monthly friends now? Darn. I freely admit this one all the time, but usually it's more like "it's PMS week, &*$#^* *&^% #*&^%* away".

If Baribie is so popular, why do you have to buy her friends?

I have max torso, min weight, min height and very feminine, delicate features. OH MY GOD AM I A DUDE?!

*checks* No, no, uterus still firmly in place.

There really is no way to tell. Although I'm actually quite good at knowing who's a guy and who isn't. There's a female avatar on my server, and all her bio says "Don't even think about it, I'm a guy in real life." LOL!

So I heard, though I keep forgetting to ask him if it's true. I hope it's not!

As for the "She Might Be A He" thing (why does this remind me of Jeff Foxworthy's "You Might Be A Redneck?" stuff?) I've honestly found that it's phenomenally uncommon for men playing female avatars to actually emote. Not the "lol" "teehee" B.S. but actually /emote waggles her eyebrows lasciviously at Keeper kind of emote. Not that I do that! ...more than about once every 5 minutes or so. I'm an incurable flirt. I'm quite female, thanks. I do have an almost maxxed out chest, not a wasp-waist though. I'm short and chubby IRL, so I won't pander to the current common body image biases by making Barbie 'toons. But since I am chubby...I'm also rather chesty. My avatar(s) are typically a mixture of what I wish I could be and what I actually am. I stopped playing male toons once I hit EverQuest and could put harrassers on /ignore...but before that I did, simply to avoid the rampant misogyny that games like this tend to have.

There are some things guys tend to do without thinking that tag them as guys. I don't think I know a single woman who actually finds the "Whazzzzzap!" commercial/joke funny. It's a pretty safe bet anyone doing that is male.

Gods, I can also talk the hind leg off a donkey.

Yes, I'm really a woman

Your constant reinforcement of your womanhood suggests that there is a 99.99 44/100% chance that you MIGHT be a dude. It's cool... I won't break your fascade, we are on the same team. All I am saying is that if you are a woman, you act very masculine. :smiles:

Xazias,

By the time you got to the "if she is a rebel" comment, you should have realized that my list was supposed to be taken lightly and in jest...

Kwee,

You are all woman, girlfriend! :hugs:

For your information, I put that in there because so many people ask me if I am. The reason is this: I play this game with my boyfriend in real life. He actually bought the game first, and I borrowed a server from his account to try it. I got so hooked that I ended up having to get my own account. But because we chose to play on my server, we actually just ended up switching accounts, since my character was already established. He made a female character, and we got married. So now whenever I refer to my wife in game, people always either think I'm a lesbian or a guy.

And by the time you got to my "checks for uterus" comment, you should have known that MINE was in jest.

How did this happen? I started what I thought would be a friendly, and maybe kind of fun thread. Now it looks like some of you are starting to get a little angry. Please, let's just all get along in here, at least. This is my baby right now, and I'd like it to grow up sane

Great list China, made me smile hehe. I've actually met a few girls that roleplay guys. Some do it just for kicks and play the character now and then, some for the roleplay experience, and others because they want to avoid being flirted with. I've actually been very fortunate in SWG in that I've had very very few unpleasant experiences with my avatar being hit on. When I did was when I was playing a dancer but for the most part the guys I have met have been very gentlemanly. In EQ I had a couple of male gnomes I would take out now and then just to watch them run around lol, they're SO cute.

I was a big flirt in EQ, and my character wasvery much areflection of my real life self, an equalmix of girly and tomboy. Guys always told me they KNEW I was a girl despite the fact that my mainwas a barbarian warrior girl called Stronglikebull. So I guess that's a good thing I haven't done any online flirting since I got married irl. The main reason being that I met my husband in EQ (we became online friends, met irl and it was a love at first sight kind of thing) and so I'm very sensitive to how powerful online relationships can be and how deeply they can impact your life. So it may also be because I have been more conservative in my interactions with SWG guys that I rarely get flirted with. Kwee gets plenty of compliments but they have always been very polite and respectful.

Anyway how very rambly and off-topic. I would say that initially on Starsider the proportion of female to male Image designers was probably at about 2:1. Since then it seems we have lost some of our male ID's and gained a great deal of female ones. A pity. I think it is so enriching to everyone when a guy has an androgynous enough personality to enjoy the more artistic and creative aspects of a game

MUSoprano,

Hey hey, relax... it's cool. That had to be the most creative way of defending your gender. I didn't label you as a man. I just noted, on a satiracle approach, that you convey a few behavioral aspects of most MMORPG gender bending men.

If you are truely a woman, you should be laughing lightly at the truth of my satire. Of course my list wasn't 100% accurate, like rebel women being dudes. It was comedy, feel free to add to the list. Your defensivness however to this topic only points to the fact that you just...might be a dude! :snicker:

*wink* I guess you'll never really know... unless you decide to come find out for yourself, and I have a feeling my boyfriend might take exception to that! LOL

I've been under a lot of stress the last couple of days. My apologies to anyone who has gotten into the line of fire, and to the original poster for my hijack of this thread.
