Reading the mmorpg interview that Tiggs has just posteda link to it gives this information:

Another exciting new feature is that of cybernetic implants. Explain how the implants will work.

You will be able to earn these implants by completing quests on Kashyyyk. Once you have them, you can get them installed by NPC Cybernetics doctors at the larger Medical Centers in the galaxy. The implants will have various combat-related uses: some will be better for Melee professions, others will be better for Ranged professions. Installing one will give you some statistical enhancements as well as a special combat move or two.

How will implants affect the current player equipment? For example, will equipping a leg implant limit a player on the types of leg armor he may use?

Cybernetics will replace armor altogether – so a savvy player will have to decide which to use. The trade-offs will be interesting, so you may want to give up a few points of armor in return for a special burst-run ability or a power attack.

On the good news side on it Cybernetics will be simi-rare, DEs are diffently out of the lop, I guess PC Docs could re-attach arms and stuff, but like that also will be NPC docs. ID could change their color, or cover them wih flesh looking covers, but I'm not going to hold my breath waiting for that, nor be that WOWed if it does happen.

Here's what I'm wondering: if a player DOES get a cybernetic implant, can he take it off if he gets tired of being a cyborg?

Yea I'm pretty sure the devs have said you will be able to remove them. Either them or the article anouncing RotW before SoE did (can't remember who it was by) said you will be able to.

Will likely be through the NPC doctors, at least I hope so.
