Thread: Where is the animation and star Warsy tools?
I agree 110% All we need to get it started is an MID sign option (like merchants have) and the ability to place it on the world map.

OK, I think many of us agree that we want player city placeable structures. Some like the tents, and some ( like myself ) want a more permanent looking structure. We have been told that the art department is indesposed, and is unavailable for creation of anything new for us at this time.
I propose a compromise.
We already have all the structure art we will ever need. Instead of creating a totally new building for us, let us use what in many cases we are already using. Our own houses decorated as we choose. Instead of coding out a new tent for us, put the code on those terminals that are currently in the tents. Make a crafter scematic for them and let us drop them in the salons we already have. The terminal would serve to enable the structure it is placed in to act like the tents do now.
Can this be done? Is it "more bang for buck"? Would the rest of the ID community agree to this?

Write up a poll, I've seen calls for both a tent and a terminal, though more for a tent I believe.

The problem seems a little more tricky than whether we want a tent or a terminal. The reason why we have all been forced into the player city tents in the first place is because people want stat migrations and they want us to be very easy to find (you go to a tent and all the image designers you want are supposed to be there). The problem is that a lot of us resent being forced into the tents and don't like to do stat migration so a lot of us are avoiding the tent and turning off our profession tags. Now we have lots of people screaming that the tents are always empty and they can't get their stats migrated. As a master, even if I wanted to go into the tents for some business, the novices who are in there resent us going in there because we steal all of their business.
So the question is, with all the "empty" tents (they usually have novices grinding ID in them at least), how do we convince the devs that giving us our own tents/terminals sooner rather than later will make it *easier* for people to find an image designer? We all know that more of us would spend time in our boutiques and spas if we had the option, but we have to make the case. It would also help the novices since they would most likely be in the NPC city tents (which get a lot of traffic) and the masters would mostly stay in their own shops. Anyway, it would be nice to come up with some good arguements that would convince the devs that giving us our own tents would help fix the problem of not enough image designers not being available.
P.S. They also *have* to fix the XP problem or there won't *be* any novice image designers.
Good plan Gyopi

And could go a bit to help support the 'what tools we use' thing.
It's a big problem for me generally to justify what I do. I have absolutely no clue how to justify a Height change without resorting to "Retro-Virus".
One thing I do like at least, we aren't necessarily told how to RP our profession. But it's a double-edged benefit as stated. And frankly I see both sides as fairly valid. Of course, given the "tool" nomenclature that can be summed up as "Stuff I do" tool, I think we would still maintain the 'magic construction' illusion if we went with an extension of the currently existing setting.
i've had a lot of fun reading these responses (especially the rack crank crank crank
i kicked and giggled over that one).
but, as far as role playing goes, i've always been good at coming up with ways things work. i guess i would think of an image designer as a genetist working with genes that are attributed to appearances. of course, genetics gets into the whole doctor/bio engineer profession just by mentioning it, so that can be a tiny, tiny problem, but i think easily overlooked.
plastic surgeons are doctors too, from my understanding (and we get the plastic surgeon tags) and i think whomever came up with botox had to be a doctor too (i dont know the history behind botox, though i probably should to make my argument especially valid.) these are all things used to create severe cosmetic make-overs-- just like IDers do. i can go from being a tub of lard toskinny in a few mere seconds (okay, okay, minutes now /twitch)--the sort of thing a cosmetic surgeon does albiet in smaller doses;or suddenly i can go from having dark, chocolatey-rich skin to looking as pale as a corpse ('m sure the 'goths' of the game loved that addition
)-- something a little more scientific thati think a chemical change to our genetic makeup and cells would cause.to me, that strikes me as being a highly genetically-tied thing.
so, as i say, i think of an IDer as a genetist. on another similar note, anyone remember that contraption forchanging your DNA inthe "DieAnothe Day" bond flick? a perfect example!i think the idea of the terminal helps this a little, but terminals are not necesary to work. if you really, really want to Role Play the part, i would say, go use the terminal. pretend you are hooking them up to the gene therapy machine.
like i said, i just think its the way you choose to look at it. you might be RPing, while your customer may or may not. i know, i know, this stat migration coupled with the tent thing has lead to a lot of grief to some people and may keep you away from the tents, but you are allowed to /addignore people and report them. this won't stop the behavior, but at least you don't have to actually take it. i wish i could hit the 'mute' button IRL sometimes. that's the advantage to the /addignore system.
based on that opinion above, i would vote for a craftable terminal.
Here is the lowest dev time idea for showing/animating an ID that I could come up with, also I think would be kind of cool and Star Warsy. It would need only two or three character animations (that they likely can copy from an existing animating) and two particle effects. I'll post this in story format
goesinto an ID tent and see two humans in the tent.
Is there an image designer around?
I'm a master IDer
Are you available? I need a little work done
I'm just getting ready to start with anther customer, but can take care of you next
great, It's my first time seeing a IDer at work
*smile*
sees
holdout a device then a flat ghostly white dish appears above the head of the customer and moves down thru him until it gets to his feet then moves back up and disappears.
What was that?
I was just scanning him with my IDPC-600 to start the ID
biwan: Aaaaaa! the pain
Stop that! It does not hurt.
biwan: Hehehe I was just joking you don't feel a thing bothan
The IDPC-600 is a Image Design Particle Controller that can movea lifeformscells around to change there looks, with itI can change the shape and color of his cells to make a person taller, fatter or have a new hairstyle.
watches as they decide what change to make
biwan: OK that is all I need done
I'll just press commit then
sees
holdout a device again, but this time there is a very brightred flash of lightaround the customer
OK bothan your next.
If the devs did holoemote in two days this should not take more then a day to add.
What do you think?
I like it, but let me borrow your idea to continue this a bit.
biwan: gets Zotted by the device and now looks like ![]()
Great! I am next!

Not really sure but these may include the profession animations which were motion capturedlast Fall. The ID one was described to me as an animationof the ID'erfussing over the customer's head.

Sounds like a good time to add some animation to Image design!!!!
I agree with you on this! when a doc buff you can see the blue light.. and so on.. When a imagedesigner do something. Like changing hairstyle the person stands still.. gets bald and pofff shakes a little and then has the new style... What about some magical lights or something to make it look a bit magical.. But this is of minor importancy for the comminity I would say.. More important things to fix and change first!!
