Thread: So, why do I feel bad?

I have a set of rules as an ID, and one of them is, I work for tips butI won't work for free. That means, before I press the accept button on the ID window, the client has to have entered SOMETHING into the offered credits slot. I enter the same amount into the required credits slot, and press accept. That way, if they try to be cheap about it and take out the offered money before they accept on their end, the ID session cancels. Now that we have a secure payment method, we are just as responsiblefor getting paid for our time and services as the clients who visit us. I do have a set price of 20k for stat migrations. It's the only thing I do that has a set price.
My guildies, in which I don't charge for work mock me with 1Cr tips... :rolls eyes

1.) Stat migrations take 10 minutes and you spend the entire time with the ID interface taking up 80% of your screen.
2.) This is 10 minutes in which you can do no other business. About 10% of the time, someone screws it up and drops the interface during the session. This means you get to start all over again.
3.) Some people will afk for 15 minutes of the 10 minute stat migration session, leaving me staring at the interface, unable to take other customers.
4.) When the uberleet dood finds that he STILL can't put on his entire suit of composite without buffs, he insists on another free migration to adjust his stats.
5.) Quite a few of those uberleet doods are very annoyed that they can't migrate their own stats anymore, therefore, they are abusive to the only live person involved in the process. Me. One guy was so bad, I stopped the session and suggested that contact SOE with his complaints. He was brilliant enough to abuse me in the spatial chat, so he couldn't get another ID to migrate him either.

Wow thats a very good ideah. I used to just hit accept and tell them to hit it aswell to see if theres any finishing touches needed before payment. But your right alot of people end up deciding free is how it should be. Now I make exceptions say if they are a long time friend or have helped me in the past say a doc with a buffs here and there or a tailor giving me a nice clothing item.
But what irks me the very most is the newbies. They think because they are new a feeekin stat migration should be free to them. I can generally tell a real newbie from a fake newbie. But I'll test them aswell. I'll tell them to go make 10k for the stat. If they do and come back to me showing they are willing to play the game and not get hand outs I always then cut their price to 4k (the reward of a round trip delivery mission to moenia from theed.
I think though it is high time I start not hitting the commit button till they put a reasonable offer in there and not 1-500 credits for a minimum of a 20 minute job
If you work for tips and not from a set price list, it's kinda hard to say "just pay me whatever" and then gripe when you don't like the amount of money they've offered you. It pays to beconsistent.
Also, for n00bs, I will generally give them a price break if they show they are WILLING to earn the money for it. For example, say I have two dudes come into the tent, both wanting stat migrations, both new players. Dude A, upon hearing my price, says "wtflol dude i'm a new player i dont have that kind of money lolz." At which point I not-so-gently point him in the direction of the mission terminals and instruct him to come back when he has the 20k. Dude B, upon hearing my prices, says "Darn, I'm a little short, lemme run some missions and I'll get back to you when I have it." HIM I'll do for free. Especially if he lets me tweak his character. LOL
