When asked what do I owe you? I say I do not have set fees, I accept tips, so whatever you feel it is worth to you for your new look and my time... this usually brings in a nice tip = ) And living on Dantooine I don't travel, I stay in the comforts of my cantina = )

I'm with Kwee on this one. Free design may be appropriate at certain times for certain people, but doing it for everyone all the time undermines the profession, creates more jerks who feel they have a right to free ID, and makes it vastly more difficult for those of us who earn our daily bread in this profession.

I don't want to get too far out of line but, to be blunt, I don't care about undermining the profession in the sense of other players making money at it. My doctor is strictly fee for service with strangers. But lots of doctors & medicswant to play 'healers' and don't want to charge and many more do it for the experience points while working towards mastery. That's their perogative and I wouldn't dream of asking them to change how they play to suit me.There are lots of ways to make money in the game and there are lots of skill points left after mastering ID. Playing my ID in a way that is fun for me is my objective, not making it easier for others to earn their daily bread.

This is really similar to what I say. And I struggled with this for a while, and very nearly instituted the Theed Local pricing when I first mastered and got really low, or no tips several times in one day. Fortunately, my business partner was able to talk me out of it, and now I am exclusively tip based.

These days most of my clients come to me from either word of mouth, or from seeing my name in association with my shop (we sell ID gift certificates). When I complete a job, I never mention payment, and usually I either get tipped well, or they ask my price.

I am always friendly and complimentary during the session, and when asked, I answer "I don't have set prices, whatever you think I'm worth will be fine with me, luv." I would average my tips these days at 12k or so and I rarely spend more than 10 minutes on a session and, though it is rare these days, when I get a low or no tip, it doesn't bother me.
