Thread: ID's in training: READ THIS FIRST!
We have a stickied thread for FAQ's for people wanting to USE an image designer, but the fact is, most of the people who read this forum are ID's from all different servers, as well as people aspiring to be ID's who have valid questions that have maybe just been posted one too many times. So I am going to start this thread and fire off a few that I can think of that I get asked a lot, and maybe everyone can add to it. I'm hoping that Rilawyn can compile this when she gets back and make a sticky thread from it, because I think we desperately need one. Now then, on with the questions:
Question: What is the fastest way to grind image design xp?
Answer: There are macros available that you can use that can get you through image design fairly quickly, but we ask that you please take some time to learn about how the profession works before you use one. An ID macro might look something like this:
/image *target*;/imagedesignSetValue freckles 0
That is just a basic, non-looping macro using the freckles modifier as an example. You can use anything you like in that command as long you have the right text for it.
Question: What tree should I grind through first?
Answer: This depends on a couple of things:Whether you want more experience very quickly, or whether you want to cater to potential customers' needs. I'm sure all image designers ground through the skill using a different modification. For example, I ground through using freckles, which comes with basic image design 4. If you are going for more xp per change, try the body tree first, they give you much more xp than, say, hair color. But if you want to choose something that your customers will ask for a lot, go with the hairstyles tree first, and then markings second, because those two trees can completely change a customer's look without changing any of their features.
Question: Is there a macro to auto-accept an offered change?
Answer: NO, there is simply no way to do this. Anyone you use as a "guinea pig" will have to click accept a whole lot.
Question: I've heard of people grinding through the entire profession in three hours. How can I do that?
Answer: While grinding through image design does not take an overly long time, doing it THIS fast is probably connected with a known exploit that involves offering a certain change that takes no mind pool. We will not explain how to use it and we do not recommend trying to find out for yourself, because you can be banned for this.
Question: I keep getting customers asking for non-race changes, like twi'leks asking for hair and trandoshans asking for rodian frills. Can I do this?
Answer: again, this is connected to another exploit, and we highly recommend you NOT use them, especially since there is no definite way to change the person back.
Question: Is there any sort of mind-altering substance I can take to help me not run out of mind pool?
Answer: There are various food, drink and spices you can take to up your mind pool. My personal favorite is muon gold - it adds 500 to all three mind stats for 10 minutes, following by a 3 minute downtime. During that ten minutes, you can get a GOOD chunk of experience. Another thing you may want to try is using an entertainer for mind buffing. Ask a musician and a dancer both to buff you, just set yourself to /watch and /listen. Musicians buff your secondary mind stats, and dancers buff your mind pool. Masters of these professions can double those pools, it can last up to 2 hours and there's no negative effects. And you can combine them with food or spice.
This is all I can think of at the moment... everyone feel free to contribute!

My only contribution is a Thank You
Very good post. I have found there values you can set:
eyeshadow
eye_color
horn_color
frills
freckles
cheeks
Cowboy Feng
Because Rilawyn is out of town, I took the liberty of reposting your faq for image design grinders on the FAQ thread (at least it's sticky in some form). To that end, I would request that all of us, in order to avoid answering the same question over and over, and consequently becoming more irate, either not respond to the same old questions and let them fall to the bottom of the boards OR simply respond "see faq thread stickied above".
You can even imagedesign yourself if you first target yourself /ui action TargetSelf ![]()
Tof.
How about if Ijust sticky this thread? ![]()
Great post - thank you, Fuschia!
My pleasure! I hope everyone will contribute to this as they think of common questions we read on this board. Thanks for making it a sticky, Rilawyn! ![]()
I have to wonder who the hell is one-starring the stuff in this thread, though. That pisses me off to no extent.

If I may make a suggestion regarding not going out of your mind by running out of Mind?
Since Image Design is part of the Entertainment professions, and one of the best bets for a good designing guinea pig is a Musician or Dancer...take advantage of the buffs to mind, focus and willpower that music and dance does! You can get a passive buff just by being grouped with musicians and dancers, which you'd need to be anyway to ID them. Just ask before you join up who in the group is a Virtuoso and Enthraller, and make sure you /listen and /watch those folks before you join. Then about 15 mintues or so after you join, /stoplisten and /stopwatch and you should get 75% of your pools added on. The duration is variable, but probably 1.5 hours or so. No downers.
Just a suggestion. ![]()
Great Q & A's ![]()
I would also like to direct ID's in training to my Image Designer Guide (link in signature) which was writtenexpresslyto help those new to the profession, though I still have to refer to it myself when someone asks me when a skill is granted ![]()
