Thread: Bad customer...

I prefer to see happy things on our forum, in fact, I hate sad ones (IDs are the best, why are there bad customers out there?), but today something happened that made me wonder why I was in a service profession in game, when I get enough of this type of BS in real life (minimum wage job... serving coffee, raising money for school).

For any Image Designers on Shadowfire... please consider *not* offering your services to this gentleman. If you wish to have his name to add to your ignore list, please email/tell me in game (Sayda).

This is the story:

First of all, I was multi-tasking (may have been my first problem), giving AP to a guildmate in our city on Naboo on my alt, and on my way to Coronet cantina on my main (la IDer) to support an almost-master dancer guildmate.

I see(hear/read) a guy spamming for an Image Designer in the spaceport (my title is off, as I didn't want to do anything but help my fellow guildmate, she's new to the guild, I wanted to make her feel welcome). I feel sorry for the guy, and offer my services (hoping for real ID, not Stat Migration), but I state that I will be ten minutes, as I need to finish some other business. He replies that he needs a stat migration and is waiting by the shuttle so I need to be quick so he can catch it. I inform him of my limitations (ID salon, 10 minutes wait, and that I will take "a couple" minutes).

I alt-tab, help my friend, return to the game four minutes later, and find my chat box filled with /tells ("where are u, its been to minutes", etc). Realizing it was going to be one of "those" customers, I vowed then that I would *not* accept the session without a tip (I work without set fees, if you pay me something I'll accept - it says so in my biography).

I apologize for being late, and started the session. It went rather well, he informed me he was wearing his new set of 80% composite and would be able to solo Jantas, etc. He was waiting for the old man, or that was what he would do after the ID session. I alt tabbed to log out my alternative character so that the lag would stop (2000 ping, 15% packet loss... standing still), I couldn't even reply to my next customer on a question he had. The session ends while I'm doing this (it was Coronet and I have 156MB RAM, takes a couple minutes). Again my screen is filled with tells, spatial and groupchat abuse. I reply, explain that I was lagged out, and apologize again.

He asks what's next, I say "next you pay me". Now this may have been my fault. I should have said my normal schpeal ("Pay me what you feel fair"), *however* he immediately starts saying in spatial that I shouldn't charge, that I did bad service, that I should have stated my price up front. I cancel the session (he hadn't yet, probably hoping I'd just hit accept). He said that my payment should be *from a job well done*.

He leaves but continues harassing me through tells. I ask if he expected his Armoursmith to not ask for payment, for his job well done, stated I didn't appreciate him calling me names (rather tame ones, I'm almost sad he didn't say anything I could have reported...).

Now, it turns out that this *exact* person had applied to join the guild I am in, and I am one of the lead recruiters. I had received an email from a guildmate about him with a completed survey we use in preliminary screenings. Now, perhaps my second fault... I didn't immediately /addignore him. I was upset. My time had been wasted. So I let him know that there would be no way I would allow him into the guild. He says he's going to join another guild (he named it, a bad mistake - I know the guildleader) then starts to threaten the guild, saying he would refuse all of us services (he was a Master Commando, going for Jedi, apparently), that he "knew people", that he would "crash" my guild (oldest living Imperial guild on the server!).

I do admit, I threatened his jedi-to-be with my own friends - of course it was the truth; I know many Bounty Hunters, one being my boyfriend, and the other his best friend. Eventually, I had enough of his boasting, and told him "welcome to my ignore list".

Soon afterwards, people in the guild start asking who this guy is, and why is he saying things like: He had joined our guild and was promised many items (house, bike, etc), and wasn't given them (note: we don't give things away just because you join us - ever), and similar things. Several different guildies received messages like this.

Well, that's the story. I've already told one IDer the tale (Caere, you're a sweetie!), any Shadowfirian (?) IDers, are welcome to ask for screenshots, and I'll send them to you.

Anyway, I hate leaving on such a bad note... So while I'll appreciate sympathy, I'll also end with something happier. After that customer I had quite a lineup. The next guy I IDed for free, because he bore the brunt of my ... confusion, frustration... basically I couldn't concentrate, and it took me forever to give him a simple cut and colour. I had a newb come in from Wanderhome who I IDed for free, then tipped her 10k, then sent her my alt's shop waypoint A few more customers, and the removal of my Master tag and I was able to make it to the cantina. I taught my guildie how to /sing (she happens to love the same band as me ) And tipped her and her friend 20k each, simply for being lovely human (... and twi'lek) beings.

I would have walked away a lot faster. I have no scrupules adding people to my ignore list and he would have been there after the first insult.

Bad customers are so much more memorable than good ones. And I hate that, because good customers are the reason we're all in this profession. I'm sorry he was a poopy head to you. Send him to Tarquinas and I'd be happy to teach him a good, firm lesson on how to treat ID's.

He would have hit my /ignore list as soon as he started fussing about the shuttle times. Sorry to hear the pain.

/hugs to you hun. Makes me so sad when people act like that. You know what I do love though ? You were able to have fun with other people after that... and didn't let that affect your care for others.

Hope he learns the value of treating others with respect ... someday lol (But for now i'm choosing not to help him either)

See you in game again soon I hope!

Jeez! What a shining example of idiocy this guy is.... I really feel your pain there. I guess there will be allways players with a similar inflated ego. And when they start to realize that not the whole universe is spinning around them they start to produce such crap

Some people are idiots who don't deserve to be helped by an ID. Why they think we should work for free I have never understood... especially since they don't treat us nice.

People need to grow up. I can't understand why some people treat others with such disrespect, in game at least. It amazes me how some just think that everyone else's character is here for their benefit, like we're some sort of NPC's in their little game.

It's because we live in a society (and this goes for ALL of western society, not just the USA) that has become rude. People don't have manners anymore. If people don't have manners when in the real world, why would they have them in an MMORPG? I work in banking, which isthe crappiest job in the world... let me tell you I think I have only heard the word 'please' a total of once... and I deal with hundreds of people a day.

It's really a shame, but it is true... which does not mean that we have to accept this... neither here nor in RL... Atleast i do not accept this state simply as it is, I allways atleast try to give a good example of how to behave in a better way. And I sure had my share of discussions about this topic with folks that thought it to be cool to bully others around.
