We have to be firm about it. I don't understand why resources are the almighty unit when they are ridiculously cheap to mine. You're not paying the weaponsmith for his resources, you're paying for his TIME in searching out those rare resources and mining them.

Time = money. There really isn't any other meaningful unit of measurement in the game. Resources are really just a measure of the time taken to gain them (plus a very small mining cost). If you pay for resources, you're paying for someone else's time.

I might argue that player time AND skill points invested are most valuable.

You are totally in the right here....I am sick and tired of people asking me to run ID them (when I am doing something else) and then afterwards they don't pay me for my time or skill and think that this is acceptable!!!

We must inform the public that we are MASTERS and our time and skill and judgement is WORTH at least 10k!!

I don't think you should take this too serious. This guy might have been new to the game and when you start out 12k creds look like a darn lot of cash to you... So it's understandable, that a newbie might not understand whyyou charge that much. But it doesn't look as if the player in question wasn't very nice to you, either... so I don't think that lowering the price wasn't really the first thing coming to your mind about this customer. What I really wonder about is, that players joyfully run mission after mission to afford a full suit of armor or some nice weapon... but that they don't seem to be willing to invest only a fraction of that time to earn enough credits to pay for a statmigration.

Well, to say it with the words of Watto: "No Money, no parts, no deal" (though I make exceptions for players that I like )

I am a master ID and usually hang in the Coronet ID Tent. A newb comes in an requests a chin enlargement and a stat migration. I say "Sure, the cost for the session will be 12k." Silence. Then he tells me "OK, I'm new and don't have that. Bye." Still not dropping from the group, he waits a minute and then says "12k for a stat migration? That's just a ripoff." He quits the group and leaves. What the heck? Do I not get to make a living because novices are doing the work for free? I thought 12k was reasonable since most people are more than willing to pay it. Oh, well...no migration for him,

Techno, I definatley hear you. I'm not opposed to helping out a new player. In fact, as I was typing "Not to worry! I will offer you a one-time free stat migration to get you going ", I got the rude message. I just backspaced my message out of existance and let the player continue on his way

People just really need to learn that being nice gets you a break. I had a girl in the newbie entertainer uniform catch me in the Moenia tent as I was just finishing up a stat migrations. She was using 'leetspeak' but she was very polite.

I stat migrated her and gave her a MUCH better appearance than she started with. She was tickled to bits, thanked me profusely and tipped me half of all the cash she had in the world (500 credits). I wasn't going to take even that much, but she insisted that my time was worth every credit.

She sent me a tell an hour later thanking me again. Much as I dislike leetspeak, it was nice to hear from her. People like this make it all worthwhile.

My policy on players who don't have the cash is quite simple. Their response always falls into one of two categories. If their response is "I'm sorry, I don't have that much right now, lemme go run some missions and I'll be back" the session is free. Plain and simple. I don't need the money - I charge because it's damaging to the income of other ID's if I don't. If someone proves that they are WILLING to pay for it, it's on me. Then, there are the "awwww cmon i'm new cant you do it for free plz plz plz". No. Mission terminals are right over... THERE. Run a few. Come back when you have the money, or find someone else who's willing to be taken for a ride by an idiot.

......have I really always been this hostile? It's amazing I have any clients. ROFL

First of all that is cheap, All my customers seem to still be happy with 22k. Infact lately i get a lot more ppl trying to tip me 50k because they are so happy they no longer have to wait 10 mins.

Second, I ALWAYS have trouble with noobs abusing me, the sad part is that the ones that are polite and inform me they just started and didn't understand stats, I will often do for 5k (they gotta pay something for a service, dont want them picking up bad habits towards us) But the rude ones can just go byebye. NOTHING is to be gained from being rude.

Third, Ihave to agree with NJ,that resources dont mean anything, you place a harvester, go back a few days later to collect, end of story. The wonderful tailor I always see isconstantly trying to charge me 2k for a new outfit, because she feels bad that Its such a markup on the resources, I'mforever telling her that the resources are none of my concern....I'm paying for her time/advice. and i refuse to pay less than 5k per item she makes me. (often paying 100k for a new outfit.) Its not like i get a new outfit everyday (well ok i do but thats not the point )And you certainly dont get a stat migration everyday.

So my advice would simply be to say "that is what I feel my time is worth" and dont appolagise for your prices.

12k is a very good price for stat migration alone. I know ID's dont make all that much money. I tip them well cause I know you are focusing on me and me alone during the session. I tip a standard 50k for body changes, and 100k for stat migrations.. I tip high cause I value your time with me. Dont let customers like that bring youdown.. Keep up your good spirit.

In regards to those professions that use resources...

Yes, they don't have to spend money on the resources to make items (WS, Tailor and such).

HOwever, there is a huge investment in money aka buying or making the harvesters themselves, paying for the vendors and everything else they have to set up their business.

Yes, resources can be "free" for the crafting professions, but they've certainly sunk in a fair amount of credits just to get to the point they can get their own resources.

Just like with Doctor...one can craft their own meds, but the expense is GREAT with little return. Most docs just buy their stimpacks now. So you have a crafting doc and a buffing doc. One doc spends all his time crafting and the other buying and selling buffs.
