Thread: Idea I had
Something you said there... sculpt statues. Maybe take a base race/gender statue, in that familiar bronze tinge, add tailor 'clothes' to it, which would be re-colored to look like the statue, and then work it similar to ID to set it's muscles, facial features, etc.
Think... sculptures of your mayor... that actually look like your mayor.
The problem with actual art features, is not making a way to make them but instead the memorary needed to post them. Because not only you need to see it it most be patched not only to every player on your server, but also to every player on every server and every piece of art work made by a player has to be patch to you.
Now they could do like DAOC crest, and have a dozen or so patterns that can be stacked with other patterns or symbles to give each a new look. Thou crest does not seem very Star Warish to me, be the same techique can be used. (maybe for tattoos?)
** I would like to ask that perhaps they think of implementing an actual art feature into SWG much like Windows Paint, Mario Paint Jet Grind radio...where you can, if you are skilled at drawing (like some of us are) draw your own custom tatoos. I think this feature should also allow Image Designers to be able to craft a schematic for a PA Flag this schematic can be given to other IDers so everyone in the guild can have the same tatoo or can be given to tailors and architechts to make clothes, furniture, houses, and other stuff as well. Also this new Custom Art System could be used to custom color and design droid chassis, dye your CH pet's fur, and give them a Image Design, or custom design your swoop bike or toscan fighter (space expansion ideas)
been thinking lately maybe they could make the hairstyling more versatile.
Say for example a certain hairstyle "Hairstyle 1" it has four sides to it: Top,back, side, front. Now say they give us like 3 or four different variations in each category, so in actuality you can build a plain hairstyle or change the frontal area (bangs) into a diff style, sideburns, ponytails or braids in the back,as well as the top This way Hairstlye 1 could truly be more unique and they could do this for each hairstyle so instead of one graphic the "hair" there would be 4 sections that combine to make that unique hairstyle...this would greatly improve buisness. Of course all of the variations of Hairstyle one in each section should combine with each and every variation well so things dont look blotchy....if this is confusibng any of you I could try and draw alittle diagram perchance. Its basicly like this in character creation you have'x' different headstyles to choose from 'x' doifferent noses...how about splitting the actual hair of the characters up just likeyou do the head into different sections where you can combine bangs 1 with sideburns 2 or sideburns 3...etc.? Anyone understand me here? ![]()
Maybe for tatoos do a similar thing Have a Tribal pallete and many different tribal variations that you can combine together...tatoos should be very easy to implement...maybe request that The Art Team look into some tatoo magazines for inspiration and ideas.
I got this idea from an old game I used to play called Command and Conquer Tiberian Sun. when you make a battleclan you can create a flag for it and you have so many different variations that you can combine I combines actual numbers and other miscelaneous symbols to get a picture that resembled a phoenix (it was our clan mascot) oh BTW they had a color pallete for each variation...i think three variations combine into one picture.

Take a look at how this game works... things aren't all loaded at once, they're loaded 'on demand'.
So, an art peice wouldn't need to be loaded into every system on every server, just to people who actually need to see that image. I mean, you don't think the character visual stats of EVERYONE on your server are stored on your machine, do you? They're stored in the server and sent to your system once you need to see said person.
Actually, you are only partially correct. Yes the visual stats of every item in the game is loaded on demand as you come into range, but the images themselves are not sent to you at that time. To keep the server side packets tiny, at best only the table/file name and index value are passed. Every single image, however, is stored locally. So any custom images would by necessity have to be loaded by way of either standard patch or hotfix onto every client to be referenced as an index valued item in an art file.
Someone further down from your post mentioned the DAOC "crest" method of overlays. That could be workable. Custom art based upon layered templates. It would still cause a level of client side lag though that many might find unacceptable as each layered element is loaded into memory in correct order for *everybody* in visual range that chooses to indulge in this form of customization (which would probably be a lot if not most players). You think it's bad walking past the Coronet starport now? ==laughs==
