Thread: Focus thread: Strange Mutation Bug

During the last few weeks we had more and more sightings of this strange bug: Mainly faces and head-features seem to randomly switch and mutate with features or other species. Like Twi-lek loosing their lekku, but getting a facial Tattoo of the zabrak and other "random features".

To get this bug fixed we need to gather any information we can, so I want you to take notes when you encounter this bug. What we need to know is:

  • What exactly did you do before the bug occurs

  • What exactly gets changed

  • Where are you?

  • When did it happen?

  • What race/gender are you or the one you see the bug on

  • any other unusual stuff that might be related or not.

Additionally info about your videocard and driverversion might be helpfull. It could be a more technical issue as well.

I will ask the QA-folks and devswhat else they need to know to get a hold on this bug. Maybe a fix is allready in the work, since I reported this bug some time ago allready, but I think any additional info will be helpfull.

Thank you for your cooperation

This seems like more of a graphics/Tech bug than an ID bug, Techno.

I've heard of several persons who do not and never have had ID skills showing up with similar bugs. It seems to happen most often when there are large groups of people around, including large amounts of player-race like Vendors and Trainers.

A side note: I had this problem occuring 3-4 times DAILY fora while, until my Video Cardblew up (started getting errorsupontrying to open any3d application)(GeForce 4 Ti4200, AGP 4x, OMEGA driver 9M 1.4523 (nVidia 45.23 drivers))

I have since switched to a N-Vidia GeForce FX5200, standard PCI slot, and I have yet to personally encounter the problem since...

Might try turning off Bump Mapping, see if that fixes/changes the problem. I had to disable Bump Mapping when I put the new card in as it's a considerable down-grade from my old card

ECH! This account is SOO new, I can't edit:

Wanted to add to above, that I am POSITIVE that the problems with facial/texture swapping I experienced on the old card were NOT a result of the card itself going bad. I know exactly why that card went bad, and it was not a gradual failure but an instantaneous breakage. So, the bugs I experienced ARE the same ones we are all seeing, and NOT a seperate bug similar problem specific to me.

to recap:

GeFoce 4 Ti 4200, AGP 4x, Bump MappingEnable in Launchpad = Facial/feature texture swapping/distortion

GeForce FX 5200, standard PCI (NOT PCI express), Bump Mapping Disable = No problems

OKAY, I know! Three posts in less than five minutes! But seriously, I can't edit.

Okay, I've checked with a housemate who also plays. He just started playing, and has had Bump Mapping disabled the whole time, and has never encontered this bug. A guild-mate, however, HAS encountered the bug and also has bump-mapping ON.

I have two computers running now, both of which I have turned ON bump mapping so as to test this bug. I'll post (again... sorry ) if I encounter the bug with bump-mapping on.

I'll also be taking a survey of in-game friends to see who has bump-mapping on or off, and who encounters the bug...

In other words, as a temporary workaround if the bug REALLY annoys you, try disabling Bump Mapping in the launchpad.

Yes, you might be right... it could be a technical thingy, too. so please include info about your hardware, especially your Video-card and if possible driver-version as well.

I get something similar to this with my dirt old motherboard and N6600. When I was level 8 my friend took me for some power leveling, and one of our group mates suggested we hunt huf dun. I didn't notice when or how it happened, but since then any race that uses human textures (this includes those big black eyed cantina race guys oddly enough) will have a light blue + green hufdun face texture wrapped around the front of their face when I zoom in to a certain detail level. I believe once I set my textures back up to "not horrible" and it was still doing it, so I did a full scan and it disappeared only for a play session. Note that I haven't been near a huf dun since.

Editizer: color and texture clarification.

I am positive this is tech - related, as my main account with no ID skills and my boyfriends non-entertainer account see them as well.

A fair amount of the time, it seems more likely to happen in a crowded area. Loading into Theed, for example, I often load in with the face of an NPC human male instead of my own. It isn't restricted to this, however, as just the other day myself and a friend only loaded into a shuttleport, and his character was wearing my characters face.

Other people I know laugh at me and swear they haven't seen this, a few of my friends get it as well. Shuttling or doing a fast Disconnect>Reconnect (without even leaving character select screen) clears it right up.

I don't think this is actually an ID bug per se even though it will probably help to have TechnoCan helping to report these and us testing. Anyway, it seems to be happening with NPCs too. Clicky

I've had this bug occur on several characters across different servers since patch 18.

  • What exactly did you do before the bug occurs

Loaded into an area. It goes away when I shuttle to somewhere else (ie: load again).

  • What exactly gets changed

My character adopts the facial featuresof a character that has loaded into the same place at the same time.

  • Where are you?

Either at a shuttle/starport or logging in at a cantina.

  • When did it happen?

Several times over the past couple of months.

  • What race/gender are you or the one you see the bug on

Sometimes race, gender and color are all different but consistently, I can find another character nearby who's facial appearance has been applied to my avatar.

  • any other unusual stuff that might be related or not.

I've seen no other anomalies which appear to be related. To put it in a nutshell: Sometimes when a character loads in the facial template of a nearby character will appear applied to the avatar. This does not seem to be unique or limited to any particular character, account or server on which I play.

Additionally info about your videocard and driverversion might be helpfull. It could be a more technical issue as well.

I don't believe this is ID related. Also potentially noteworthy; while I have experienced this on my zabrak, human and twi'lek characters, it has not occurred on my bothan or trandoshan characters.
