Ok, I have the gong kit, I started to drop the first two pieces in, and my gong kit ate it, saying it dissassembled and elft nothing reconizable behind. What is the deal here?

Examine the kit in your inventory. They will be listed in there.

thats how it works, examine it and it says it has thta part
