I'd like to propose a thread which would gauge interest in having a Macintosh version of SWG.
Rather than aim for typical responses of PC versus Mac let's just keep it simple.
Yes for a Mac version.
No for no-need (not to be confused with PC-Mac bashing)
I have both PC and Mac and used both for years, each have their strong points, each have their followers. I just feel that this thread will allow the Fans of Star Wars that are also Mac usersto have the opportunity to experience such a wonderful game and given the recent announcement from Apple of the 2" thick, 20" screen G5 system I don't see that it would be too long where you'll find equivalent technology replacing home TV combi's and I for one would like to sit in my armchair playing SWG on a 40" G5 enabled screen.
Thoughts? (not debates on PC vs Mac cos that would dilute the poll)

No, no need Macs suck for games..thats because noone (apart from blizzard) makes game for them until a year later - it has nothing to do with the ability of the machines![]()

Dude this is a great idea!!
Although the devs will NEVER develop a mac version of SWG...but it would be awesome.
I have a G4 Powerbook with 1.5 Ghz, 1 gig of RAM and a nice Radeon card...i invested LOTS of money in this toy (i mainly use it for network administration and web development), even UT2004 runs pretty smooth on it.
I would looove it to have SWG on my mac lol so i could login from the office when there´s nothing to do =)

Early on in my career I tried to program for the Mac. It's difficult, very difficult. Aside from using C++ you have to program in the processor specific code for the PowerPC and the later day Motorola Chip, which basically meant translating C++ into binary assembly code! I abandoned the project after 1998. I have a G4 Titanium PowerBook currently. I bought it mostly because it looks cool. So I mainly use it for Photoshop and my iPod. Let's be real Apple has never really supported Game Development on the Mac because they are careful not to release the core operating code of their software. Fair enough!
However Blizzard will release a version of World of Warcraft for the Mac hopefully it suceeds. Let's all remember that HALO began on the Mac in 1997 as the Bungie title, Marathon.
The ultimate World of Warcraft Machine in all likelyhood may well be a Mac Dual 2 GHz with an nVidia 6800. Who knows?
Hopefully this thread gets noticed and there is a response by Sony

No, devs would be coding 2 different games. Some bugs might show up for macs, while others wouldn't for PC's or vice versa.
You would be creating a coding nightmare trying to correlate everything to work the same.
If the game was never updated I could see them spending time incorporating macs but I would rather be getting constant PC updates than help fund for Mac updates with my $15.
Now if you increased the mac users fee to $30 + muhahaha

Agreed they would have to create a whole new user fees system for Mac users to suppport a QA Team to test and report bugs on the Mac Side. Right now there aren't enough QA Testers on the PC side to do it. So the Mac Version is not cost/effective. The user base simply could not support an increased user fee for Mac's

Yes, why not? If they port it to the BSD-based MacOS maybe a port to ordinary BSD and Linux will be possible too...

There is no way the current SOE developement team is competent enough to program the MAC. They don't even fully understand Windows...

That would really be nice... SWG on my 23" LCD, yeah baby! SWG is the only thing I use my PC for these days.

I was actually thinking about this on my way to work this morning with my shiny brand new Powerbook G4 17" monster
I think the main problem is the closed architecture of the Mac - Writting 3D apps for the PC is a breeze thanks to directx and opengl - it's not nearly as easy on the mac. - Not to mention that the mac is unix based, which adds a whole other layer of complication to high end 3d programming.
When the apps are developed correctly, the mac will handle them without skipping a beat, but the issue is the HUGE cost associated with developing on the mac.
I would like to see it, but will not be surprised when it doesn't happen.
