Command Strings Made Easy

By: sciguyCO

To see a list of commands starting with a given string, type in what you know (or guess) is the start of the command, then hit ctrl-shift-tab. This will list all the slash commands starting with what you had. If only one command matches, it puts that into the entry line.

So typing "/nex" and hitting ctrl-shift-tab gets you /nextCraftingStage. Typing "/alarm" and hitting ctrl-shift-tab gets you:

/alarm

/alarmAddAt

/alarmAddAtRepeat

/alarmAddIn

/alarmAddInRepeat

/alarmRemove

/alarmSnooze

For some commands, you can get useful info by doing "/help {command}", but most of the more esoteric ones (like /createPrototype) just come back with "command not found". This usually means that it isn't a "normal" command, so the help text wasn't put in.

Do you have a useful tip that you want to share with your fellow Star Wars Galaxies players? E-mail it to SWGTips and if we select the tip we'll post it as the Tuesday Tip and give you the credit! Send us the character name and server you'd like us to include if we post the tip.

Check out last week's tips

Pffft, here I thought you were going to tell us something new about command strings, and I was going to repost the ctrl-shift-tab trick. Do I get anything cool for being the "selected tipper", or just fame and ego stroking?

Related tip:

If you don't like ctrl-shift-tab, you can go into options -> controls -> "Keymap" and change the mapping for "command completion" (I'm not sure which category it's in, maybe "chat", but it definitely shows up in "all") to bind it to another key combo.

Keeping in line with the Tuesday tips: You can actually copy and paste in SWG, but you have to map the keys, first. Go to Keymap/Chat and look for(I don't remember the exact labels, so I'm going to have to guess) Chat Copy/Chat Cut/Chat Paste. By default they are not mapped. Just rebind them and you enterprising merchants can easily send out your spam mail by copying from the notepad(/note) and pasting into an email.

JTL tip...

for us low lvl people...after targeting a ship target a sub component of the ship like the reactor then blast away on the ship...you will disable it then you can shoot it easier to blow it up.

If targeting sub component is not mapped you will have to go into ctrl o and then go into the keymapping section then targeting...

TH...any word on in the field two year vet rewards and or when recursive macros are going away...two items you said you would post more info about "soon"...recursive macro post is a year old in aug.

you don't need a level 80 to get good xp. running missions will get you the same xp for the group, regardless of the highest level. the pay is a little less, but you will get the same xp in a l30 capped group as you will in a l80 capped group.

so pick somewhere besides dantooine mining outpost, group with other low mid level guys, and run missions instead of shouting LFG.

Now if we can get an MO spammer with this info I can stop repeating myself everytime I start a group (and maybe people will start believing me instead of leaving my group to go join the "high level" group)

another reason people want a "high level" group is that the mobs go down faster with a group of similar levels. if you have one level 80 in a group of otherwise level 50's, it does (seem) to take quite a bit longer to kill each bol. whereas with 8 level 80's, they go down very quickly (and i am assuming with 8-level 50's, the level 50 mobs would go down equally fast. so with a group o f similar level, you get xp/meat/bone/hide faster in my experience.

I don't know what all the ctrl-shift stuff is for. I just hit tab and get the same effect. /shrug

Tired of hitting "Alt" so you can move you mouse to land your ship? Write macro's for your popular landing destinations.

To land on Lok:

/ui action conversationResponse0;
/pause 1;
/ui action conversationResponse0;

Starting from 0 count from the top down to see which conversation response you need to use. Need to respond with the 3rd response instead? Use "/ui action conversationResponse2"

Note: Capitalization matters!
