I dont know about training, but if you use a pistol, the xp will be reduced to your current cap. I learned that when I dropped smuggler, sliced a container for someone when I just had dirty fighting tree and lost 30k xp or something like that.

Exactly. That's why I haven't even held a pistol for 14 months. I am just looking for a way to train that won't destroy all my banked xp.

As long as you don't use a pistol you should be able to use the xp to train as many boxes as the xp will allow.

You have done this? People tell me it autochecks and dumps the xp upon the 1st train...

I had 310k stored rifle xp, went to train rifles 1, and dropped to 10k rifle xp.
WTH is the point of having stored xp if you cant use it

I dropped pistoleer like 6 months ago, and still have 500k of xp that I never used or lost.
Is it possible to retrain up to Novice Pistoleer again with that? Seems like I've seen the system recheck the xp cap at the first training and drop to 2k xp from a stored amount when the first skill is trained. I'm wondering if it's possible or what caused the lost xp, if player training or NPC training is more likely to work.
Anyone know the answer?

I didn't do it with pistols, but I did it with 2hand xp. I would think that it should be the same. Juat wanted to add that i've done this with combat xp as well. I had combat xp saved up and used it to train ranged support 1-4 in marksman.

I have done this a number of times, and I can tell you 100% that once you train the 1st box in any skill it dumps you back to the cap (so 10k for most combat related xp) no matter how much you had saved - I lost 800k unarmed xp to this at one point heh.
