Thread: CU Professions and Name Association
For the new CU I had hoped to see some more ties to the name of each profession, but in some cases it ended up with a dissappointment.
What I talk about is that you should be able to go on the name itself to pick what you would like to play, and have bonuses that actually fits that profession. All in all, what you get should "make sense". (Ranger should be about being a Ranger, Bounty Hunter should be about being a Bounty Hunter, Commando should be about being a Commando).
Here are my issues with the current professions:
Bounty Hunter
What the name implies: Bounty Hunter means that someone hunts humans to be payed a "bounty" set on their head. They are almost assassins, except that the missions they take are "public". They should be master on disabling and taking out a single humanoid, using tactic skill and great preparation.
What they are: Bounty Hunters almost like Commando should have been. A set of boosted weapontypes. The only "Bounty Hunter" skill they have is Investigation.
What should change: Completely remove the weapons tied to the profession. Replace the lines with Gadgets, Traps and Tricks.
* Gadgets are unique certified Bounty Hunter weaponry such as armband flamer (bypasses block) and stunrod (with a chance to incap the opponent).
* Traps are unique certified Bounty Hunter "grenades" that equals scout traps but works on people. They will do various annoying effects upon the one who are effected by them (such as Dizzy, Stun, Blind or everything at once).
* Tricks are unique special attacks like Underhand Shot, Confusion Shot, Critical Shot, Ranged Knockdown, Duelist Stance etc.
Spread out a small general bonus to both melee/ranged accuracy/speed across the tree.
Carbineer
What the name implies: Carbineer are masters in the use of rapid-fire weapons.
What they are: Carbineers are actually masters in the use of rapid-fire weapons.
What should change: Carbineers should have the specials currently given to Bounty Hunters. They should not be forced to take up Bounty Hunter to be the masters of what they already masterized.
Commando
What the name implies:Commando is a trained and professional "Soldier".
What they are: Grenade specialist right now.
What should change: Commando should be a Combat Specialist. The profession should boost any other profession out there and be a natural choice among anyone who intends to work heavily on combat. They should have general bonuses to both melee and ranged weaponry, weaker group commands (like a weaker form of Squad Leader), damage bonuses given to weapons they use, increased defense and toughness. They should, however, be much more expensive than generic professions (up to around 150 skillpoints).
Creature Handler
What the name implies: Creature Handlers tame and sell creatures.
What they are: Creature tame creatures.
What should change: Creature Handlers should be offered some business options such as setting up a vendor and put their animals in display. In no way should "Bio-Engineer" screw with their profession. Taming "The Real Thing" should always be better.
Fencer
What the name implies: Fencers are masters of agile use of 1h weaponry.
What they are: Fencers are bleed and crippling specialists.
What should change: A definite improvement in speed and defenses (avoidence). Also missing is the use of a weapon in each hand. Rename the profession to One-Handed Melee Weapon Specialist. Also, make sure they can get their required "Teras Kasi Student" by using 1h weaponry (they should never be forced to use anything else than 1h weapons, EVER).
Pikeman
What the name implies: Pikemen are masters in the use of "long range" melee weaponry.
What they are: Pikemen are the is a cripple specialist.
What should change: Increase the melee range of all polearms to a longer reach. Also, make sure they can get their required "Apprentice Heavy Swordman" by using Polearms (they should never be forced to use a 2h weapon, EVER).
Pistoleer
What the name implies: Pistoleers are masters in the use of smaller ranged weaponry at short range.
What they are: Pistoleers are actually masters in the use of smaller ranged weaponry at short range.
What should change: Pistoleers should have the specials currently given to Bounty Hunters. They should not be forced to take up Bounty Hunter to be the masters of what they already masterized.
Ranger
What the name implies: Rangers are masters of tracking and killing top range creatures.
What they are: Wilderness specialists.
What should change: Rangers should be masters of killing top level creatures. They should be given a damage bonus against creatures, regardless what weaponry they are using, and be able to put poison on melee weaponry.
A Master Ranger should be able to produce traps that even effects Ancient Krayt Dragons.
Rifleman
What the name implies: Rifleman are masters of precise damage at a very long range.
What they are: Rifleman are actually masters of precise damage at a very long range.
What should change: Rifleman should have increased range and the ability to target body as well.
Smuggler
What the name implies: Smugglers deal with contraband goods.
What they are: A pistol-hybrid profession.
What should change: While the "Dirty Fighting" line should stay, the experience used and weaponry suggested should be generic, not in any way tied to a specific weapon (Pistols). The profession should continue up from Business IV (Artisan 0040) instead of Marksman/Brawler.
Squad Leader
What the name implies: Groupleader.
What they are: Groupleader.
What should change: I have no idea.
Swordman
What the name implies: Swordman are masters of swords.
What they are: Swordmen are masters of 2h melee weaponry.
What should change: Change the name from Swordman to Two-Handed Melee Weapon Specialist. Also, make sure they can get their required "Apprentice Swordman" by using 2h weaponry (they should never be forced to use a 1h weapon, EVER).
Teras Kasi Artist
What the name implies: Teras Kasi is a rare kind of Martial Arts.
What they are: Martial Artists.
What should change: Either tie the profession to the organisation and philosophies teached by the Teräs Käsi, or change the name of the profession to Martial Artists. Also, make sure they can get their required "Apprentice Heavy Swordman" by using Unarmed (they should never be forced to use a weapon, EVER).
