The SWG client is very file access intensive (all the graphics, etc are actually on your PC). Anti-Virus scanners like McAfee or Norton scan each and every file every time it's opened.
Normally this is a very good thing, as a career IT professional, I always recommend having an active, up to date antivirus scanner.
But in the case of SWG, this will have the effect of causing additional lag and can lower your frames per second, something that could be very bad in PvP. My suggestion is that when you are running SWG, that you disable your antivirus scanner temporarily. On most programs you simply right-click the icon on the lower right hand area of your windows desktop and select "disable real time or on access scanner" or something similar. Consult the documentation for your particular program.
I do this before I launch the SWG client. Now, there is the possibility that your SWG client COULD get infected by a virus, so I also suggest that you do regular complete virus scans of your PC, just to be safe.
And, make sure to re activate your virus scanner after you are done playing SWG!
