Since, I'm a pure merchant and could never use anything better then a cdef weapon I was wondering caould I just group people doing the mission and get the badges that way?

(i.e. go up with a group and just hang out at start they redo part that would give badges, would I get them as well?)

Yes as long as you are grouped with the ticket holder and you go up and they complete the mission you will get the badge and if you go back to the person who gave the ticket holder their ticket you will also get the AV-21 schematic.
