What's the most effective way of getting money, early in the game? I know a few tricks, but are there any other ones? Perhaps there's a good planet to get missions on, or a good money-making profession, or...?

not really, selling items you craft is always an option, but the Master *enter profession here* kinda have that market cornered. Once you get up in the skill trees, grouped solo mission *mokk and janta* on dantooine are good, esp if you run them out of Mistmore *its an improved job market, so higher payouts*

another option is to kill and loot ragtag's and meatlumps trying to get adhesives *looks like a white tube of toothpaste* thoes can sell anywhere from 200k to 600k depending on your customers degree of need.
