I imagine the CU is going to make this moot since as I understand it you have to wear a full set of armor, but could someone explain the armor hole to me? I switched my attire from comp chestplate, boots and leggings to comp chestplate, boots, and gloves. I don't wear the helmet because I noticed I was taking much more damage with it on. Has anyone else had this problem?

Well to be honest the only time I ever had this problem was when wearing a full suit of armour - went krayt hunting and blam... 1 hit incap - happened on several occasions.

I have never had this problem wearing the "cheater suit" and have stuck to last for the last few months with no issues at all.

I keep a careful eye on my combat log - every shot fired against me is mitigated by PSG (if its correct type of damage) and then either Helmet, Chest, Gloves, Boots - nothing ever goes right through.

I was hunting Krayts also when I was taking severe mind pool damage.

If you weren't wearing a Helmet then you won't last more than a few minutes against any of the Higher end stuff.

What Kinetic Resist does your armour have, and what proffession are you?

I'm a defense-stacked TKM (TKM, Pistoleer 0/0/4/0, Fencer 3/3/3/0). I wear80% kinetic comp boots, chestplate, and boots. I don't normally wear a helmet and generally don't take any mind damage. In fact, I usually only get health damage, mostly from NS. I can take a Juvie by myself and a group of NS Sentinels without too much damage. I was Krayt hunting and decided to add a helmet to complete the four-piece set. When I did that, I started taking more damage. I just found that rather odd.

This sounds, as if your helmet condition was down to 0. In my experience there are only 2 reasons for armor holes. One is that the condition is 0, the other is, that the server haven't recognized that you put on your armor and you'll still appear to other players as if you ain't wearing the armor. Usually reequipping helps to solve that problem. But that only happened once in my whole time to me.

Be aware, that you don't need bracers, bicep and leggings to be fully protected, but if you use them and they go down to 0, it'll also cause armor holes and you'll be hit through the broken parts.

What some people might consider as an armor hole are exceptional hits. Once I was fighting a dark nova trooper, as they cannot be intimidiated, they usually hit for 200-400 dmg. But every once in a while they land some kind of exceptional hit with incredible high damage, which was 2.5k after 68% Energy resist for me. So, check your combat log to make sure if the armor protected you from any damage or not.

Thanks for the suggestion of the exceptional hit. I need to monitor my combat log more closely. I susepct it may have beena few really good hits from the Krayt. The helmet was brand new. I just stopped wearing a helmet and have still seen no detrimental effects.

armor hole was something devs couldnt fix for the longest time. The final solution was this...

All arm damage (biceps, bracers, gloves) all go to hands. Therefore you only need to wear gloves for 100% protection

All leg damage goes to feet. Therefore you only need to wear boots for 100% protection.

Some peeps have reported things like necklaces or belts have messed this up but I never see any problems. All I wear is chest plate, helmet, gloves and boots. I also wear bio pants with +4 melee defense and an undershirt with +4 melee defense. I solo everything in the game with this outfit and havent died in over a yr.

This will all change after CU. Hands and feet will no longer take damage (basically the opposite in response to probs with species that couldnt wear armor on those parts), which will make my +11 rifle speed boots i looted with 11+ million Not to mentio those boots i got from some quest (tantel padded, +3 melee, +3 poison resist) worth a lot too

Hmmm .. it'll require some testing, maybe it'll work like the current system: No holes if you don't wear boots/gloves,but if you wear armor boots/gloves and they are broke/have less protection, they will cause armor holes...

Sad to hear that the new mini suit will contain of 7 items and my modded pants will become useless

Actually you might not be taking mind damage, you might be using a special that drains your mind pool and the encumbrance from wearing the helmet makes your secondary stats (the "drain" stat and the regeneration stat) lower so using specials while wearing your helmet takes much more points from your mind than when not wearing it. If you are a CM or Rifleman or any other profession where the specials use a lot of mind that's probably what's happening. Some weapons have higher mind cost than others too.

The CU will fix this by making specials not kill you. I can't wait. I just hope everything else gets sorted out.

And when they say "armor hole" they mean that sometimes you used to get hit without the armor blocking any damage even when wearing a full suit of armor. It should be fixed and is rare if it happens at all anymore.

Some of my pet peeve bugs:
•Armorsmith protection layers were not converted with the CU.
•Ship Details window does not close when you click "Travel" resulting in the message "You have lost the target. Closing interface."

That's very interesting. I suppose that's what might have done it. I was spamming specials. I'm TKM, but I don't remember which pool gets hit for most of the moves I use. I never use specials unbuffed because of the damn cost.I was was buffed for that particular session and had taken Ahrisa though. Oh, well. It doesn't matter. I don't wear the damn helmet anymore anyway and I do just fine. Thanks for all the repsonses!
