Thread: Tyim’s big bad Droid Thread – Beginning G
This guide is intended for those who want to know the bare-bones basics of how to become a Droid Engineer. It does not contain advanced details of droid types and features. It does not contain lists of bugs. It does not contain rants. Please do not attach those to this thread.
I have also left out the experience numbers and costs of training various levels. These can easily be determined in-game using your skills window, and they are still changing frequently as balance adjustments are made.
For in-depth analysis and discussion of the ends out Droid Engineer please refer to this forum:

where we will likely be pursuing these issues in detail.
If you were not in Beta I do not recommend that you try and power-level your way to Droid Engineer, take your time, enjoy the journey. There is a lot of stuff to learn and experience along the way. Besides, as of SWGs release date, the profession is still in it’s adolescence.
I. How do I become a droid engineer?
A. If you have not already done so find an NPC artisan trainer and train in Novice Artisan. Other players can not train you in novice. After that I recommend finding players to train you in additional Artisan skills, it is cheaper.
B. You must train up the four levels of the Engineering branch of the Artisan tree. You will do this by crafting items. You gain significantly more experience if other players use the items that you craft. Please pay attention to the type of experience the items you are making give you. Not all items you craft will give you General Crafting Experience.
C. In order to craft items you will need resources. You will obtain resources by surveying and sampling. You can also purchase them from other players but you will likely find this prohibitively expensive at this level. I highly recommend that you go ahead and train up the surveying branch of the artisan tree as you go, you will greatly improve the speed of your resource acquisition. Once you can craft harvesters you can use those to obtain resources in addition to sampling.
D. Once you have obtained Engineering IV, and have obtained enough additional General Crafting Experience you can find an NPC Droid Engineer Trainer and train in Novice Droid Engineer.
E. I will personally recommend that you become a Master Artisan. Some of the items you need to create various types of droids require the Master Artisan skill, and to work your way up the tree you need a lot of them. So unless you have a friend who is a Master Artisan who will work with you, you are going to need it.
II. What kind of droids can I make?
As of SWGs release date droids have the following abilities:
A. They can carry stuff for you.
B. Some types can fight for you.
C. Some can act as crafting stations, with a crafting module installed
D. Some can act as portable hospitals, with a medical module installed
There are still many issues that need to be addressed with the feature set of droids, and the droid types that are crated.
III. So I just made my very first droid deed what do I do now?
1. Right click (default key map) on the deed and choose train from the radial menu. Your deed will disappear.
2. Open your Data Pad and you will see your droid there. Again, right click on this and choose Call from the radial menu. Your droid will appear beside you. As of SWG release date you can only do this in a city, a camp, or the front porch of your house.
IV. How do I program my droid?
A. Bring up the radial menu on your droid and choose, for instance, “Follow Me” from the Program submenu
B. Your droid will prompt you with “?”
C. Type the command that you want to use to order your droid to follow you, for instance, “numnut follow”
D. Your droid will respond with “!”
E. From now on when you say “numnut follow” your droid will follow you.
V. How do I name my droid?
If you teach your droid 4 or more commands with the same word at the start of the command, the droid will name itself with that word.
VI. Now what?

It is always good to know about the bugs before they bite you.

Hey thank you that is very helpful!
I plan on playing on the RP server and becoming a Droid Engineer.
Would like to set up a nice little facility outside of town somewhere and just learn and make my little Droids.
