Each week, Q-3PO started a thread for you to share game tips with fellow players. Tuesday Tips will continue on with that tradition so be sure to join in and add your helpful tip.

Do you have a little known command you use all the time?

A cool place to visit?

A trick (non-exploit) to getting more out of the game? Share it here.

Game Options

New players and veterans alike don't always take advantage of the "Game Options" menu on the launchpad. Once you log into the game, the "Game Options" button will become available and there are 6 tabs of options that can be very useful.

Tab 1 - Information

This tab lists all the information about your computer including your drivers, memory and other useful technical references. There is also a a button so you can quickly copy this information to the clipboard.

Tab 2 - Graphics

This tab contains a host of graphics options that can be helpful including the ability to run the game in a windowed mode (though it takes a lot of system resources to do that), along with a variety of rendering options.

Tab 3 - Sound

This tab can allow you to enable and disable your audio as well as choose the source for game sound. This is especially helpful for musicians and technophiles out there with more than one sound card.

Tab 4 - Game

The game tab has a checkbox for those that want to turn off the opening animation sequence as well as a drop down window for choice of joysticks and language options.

Tab 5 - Advanced

The advanced tab does indeed have advanced options, but in particular, if you check "Disable World Preloading", you can increase the performance of the game on some computers.

Tab 6 - Debug

This can be an especially helpful tab if you are having technical difficulties. Click the "configure" button to change the options. There are options for crash logs, character ID, hardware information and even a flag so that it makes it easy for you to flag yourself for customer service and tech support to contact you. Lastly, there is even a button so that you can easily reset all of your in-game options if you need to.

Do you have a useful tip that you want to share with your fellow Star Wars Galaxies players? E-mail it to SWGTips and if we select the tip we'll post it as the Tuesday Tip and give you the credit! Send us the character name and server you'd like us to include if we post the tip.

Check out last week's tips

Why don't you give us the option to go back to the old interface.

The terrible design you are forcing on us bad enough without having to look at those ugly anti-immersive icons.

Just wondering if the dev's are going to give us any tips on the overall plan with the CU? We've gone from a May 5th publish to a publish tomorrow and big fixes are still going to TC..

I'd really like to respectfully ask that we get put in the picture a bit more, seeing as we are the paying playerbase.

I love SWG and I fully support the CU - just only if it is finished...

Please - anyone else that agrees, QFE this post.

Thanks in advance TH

While you're talking about options..

If you like to alt-tab between game and desktop a lot, enable "Windowed Mode" and, if the game res is the same as your desktop res, "Borderless Window"

This will make the process switching much quicker and also let you see programs over the SWG window.

Took me a year to find that out

Doesn't appear to impact on frame rate at all, that's with a X800 XT and 1GB of memory tho so YMMV.

Anti-immersive? Have you looked at them? Like "Head Shot" being a pic of a ST getting shot in the head? Ormaybe "Cripple Shot" being a AT-AT toppling over from getting shot in the leg? You mean those anti-immersive icons?

Look a little closer next time.

The devs can't please everyone.

Wow... what a really great tip...

Here's an idea TH, how about a tip that tells us, your customers, how we can get SOE to listen to our feedback cos you blatantly don't.

2005 was shaping up to be a great year for SWG. Things were moving in the right direction. Communication increased ten-fold, frequent bug-fixes and patches came out and some great enhancements were made...

And then the CU happened - or more specifically, the level system of the CU happened...

I recall you once said that the devs wanted to take time to get the CU right. Wanted the input from your customers so you could deliver some we wanted. What the hell happened?

You're probably bored of all the threats of people quitting now, but know this TH. I cancelled my pre-order for ROTW purely because of what I tested on TC-EP3 and TC5. I'm willing to give the CU a month or two to convince me. I am giving you this chance and there are many others like me. I have to ask - is no one in SOE even slightly bothered about this? Is no one bothered about the countless "leaving" threads? Even a little acknowledgement would go a long way.

All you have to do is say something like "We hear you. We know the majority don't like the CU, but please trust us - we believe you will like it very soon". This acomplishes two things: we feel like you're listening and our confidence in your decisions can be increased.

Communication TH - it's not that big a deal to ask for is it?

But then again, I'll be very suprised if this post isn't removed....

I have a great tip that wasn't readily apparent when I tested the CU on test center.

To turn off the horrid EQ2 style movementinterface and go back to the good old SWG interface.

Ingame:

Open Options (Ctrl+o).

Click the Controls Tab on the left side of the options window.

Click the Keymap button on the bottom of thewindow.

When the Keymap window pops up, look for the pull down bar that has text next to it reading: Load A Standard Keymap:

Select the Star Wars Galaxies option from the pull down bar.

Click Apply.

Click Ok to close the Keymap window.

ClickDone to close the Options window.

Enjoy being able to function again.

Here's a tip for you Thunderclart: next time you lot do a major update to the game, don't go about the community relations in such a half-a$$ed way. It's been embarassing! Where is Blairs Blog? The promised "frequent" (HA!) update on CU "testing" and the Dev Diary?

Good grief you lot make Ronald MacDonald look like a public relations guru.

Urban Dictionary definition of SMED:

"to interfere with one's gaming enjoyment: To drastically alter an item which is enjoyed by thousands."

TO pull a smed. Jeez, those dev's pulled a smed on swg big time
