Thread: How to Fight Post CU
I've seen far too many rants and complaints on forums about how the CU is the death of SWG, and woe betide anyone who says otherwise. With that in mind, I'm going to attempt to help you learn how to fight in this new CU system, based on my own experiences so far.
As a level 80 fighter, I have taken on creatures from lvl 74 to lvl 81, solo, and in groups of 2 with a great deal of fun and efficiency. I should add that my character is a Master Carbineer, Master Commando.
There are some tools that are most helpful in combat, and I shall explain these individually:
Stims: Stim packs are no longer certified to medic. There are 4 different levels of Stim, and these are certified at different combat levels. Stim D is the highest of these, and is certified at level 60. Purchase a crate of the highest possible damage stim that you can find, these are probably converted from old Stim Ds or Stim Es and run around 600 power. New stims may be better, but we shall see how our BEs can do with those. Stim Packs have a 60 second timer
Novice Medic: Novice Medic gives the combatant the Bacta Shot skill, which is a small heal, that can be around 200-250 at the novice level. As you increase your skill in medic, you can get the Bacta toss (ranged), Bacta spray(aoe) and bacta jab(improved bacta shot). These can all be performed on yourself with little or no delay, allowing you to fully heal yourself in a few combat rounds. Bacta Spray, toss, and jab have enhancer packs which can further increase your heal output.
Citrus Snow Cake: This no longer increases your accuracy, but your healing efficiency. This is a skill you get as you advance in the medic profession, but can also be increased by eating the food. This will increase your novice medic bacta shot from 250 to 320 ish.
Ahrisa/Brandy/Mando Wine: This food/drink increases your heath, as well as your regeneration stats, and is stackable with...
Doctor Buffs: Doctors can now increase not only your heath, but your health regen, action regen, and mind regen. As those of you who have fought for a period of more than 30 seconds will realise that your action is a big problem, and will decrease rapidly. a good regen is key to a quicker take-down.
Neutron Pixie: Same function as buffs and food, but with a greatly decreased downer time (experiment with smugglers delight to decrease further)
Pikata Pie/Air Cake: This should help you to dodge more attacks than before, but appears not to at the moment. This is perhaps a bug.
Experiment with other foods and spices. These will probably have been changed from their previous functions, and may further improve your combat experience. Note that Food attributes do not stack as they did before.
Now on to fighting styles.
If you have more than one creature attacking you, try to do AOEs as much as you can, but be careful not to incur more agro. Currently, Commando AOEs are broken, and seem to be doing 0 damage to the non-targeted enemies. If you do not have AOEs, alternate your state attacks between targets.
Knockdowns, snares, roots can be very helpful in evading a melee attacker. Stuns, Blinds, and dizzies can be very helpful in evading a ranged attacker.
If you are fighting only one enemy, remember that you can knock down more than once, but there will be a delay. The knock down shot can still do damage, but may not take effect all the time. If you KD is a powerful shot, don't be afraid to use it. An enemy will take more damage while knocked down
Ranged fighters, remember to use your range advantage and run from your target. Use roots, snares, and kds to gain distance. Melee fighters, use armour break to reduce the enemy's resistance to your hits, intimidate to decrease their damage, and warcry to hold off any friends.
If your target BAFs (Brings a Friend), don't be afraid to run away, more often than not, the friend will get bored and return to his spawn point.
Pulling Techniquies
Spacing: Hang around for a bit to see if your target will roam away from his friends 10 or so meters. Often, this can make the difference between agroing one mob, or 2.
Distance: Try to pull your target from just within your maximum range. Often, his friends standing behind him will be out of your range, and therefore not notice you shoot their mates. Let him come towards you, then knock him down.
Share Agro: If you have more in your group, and some are melee fighters, get them to use Taunt as their default attack (ctrl+click) this will allow them to keep hold of something that might otherwise hate you more because of either healing, or higher damage.
Prioritising
If you have more than one creature attacking you, try to concentrate on killing the one thats doing the most damage first. If you can, keep the other lesser creature occupied by using knockdowns, roots, and snares. Remember, that you are not Locked into combat with a single creature like before, so you can switch between targets quickly. AOE attacks are also useful, because they can help make a dent in your next target.
As I said before, this is only a report of my own experiences in combat with roughly even leveled mobs. I have not yet discovered how to take on creatures that are significantly above my own Creature Level. I shall continue experimenting, and look forward to someone else's (positive) account of that.
I hope this guide helps you to become a better post CU combatant, and that it helps to decrease the number of complaints I have been seeing.
Yours,
Good post, and thanks for sharing Kalandra.
We need more positive posts, the CU is here to stay. Lets learn how to use the new system.

1.) Respec to be either a tank, healer, or damage dealer.
2.) Stand at some place ppl are known to gather, and yell somethign like "Level 40 healer LFG!!"
3.) camp and pull, develop a rythm, time the respawns.
Hoorah for Everquest in a Star wars motiff =(
If thats not your thing, space is still fun.... for now.
Thanks for this post and the good explenations above. Today I had my first login after the CU. I must say it looks nice, but the gameplay is very different. Nevertheless, i'm grinding FS at the moment and i just don't have any idea what would be a good combi of professions. I'm also a level 80 player andcan mess around with the Respec. If any of you has a suggestion i would love to hear it. Thanks!

There is a lot of misinformation out there.
A lot of people are angry with the change in combat dynamics, and they feel that the
"forced" (really optional) grouping is unfair.
But, I say it is a heck of a lot better than the forced (completely necessary) buff'ing
followed by running headlong into swarms of enemies with reckless abandon and never having to
worry about being put down. Talk about boring.
Ducimas, that description sounds just exactly like the old system.
/shout Looking for Squill Hunt group mean anything to you? Or are you a sado masochist who likes to bore himself by pwning weak ass NPC's while buffed in Cylon armour.
those drinks from the cantina give amsall litlle buff for everything. and they stack with ervy other kind of buff
You forgot to mention that for any serious XP you HAVE to be in a group.
Soloing is dead.
