Overall I like the CU, don't get me wrong, but my problem is as follows:
My combat level is too low for me to rate any weapons which will allow me to gain xp worthy within my specialty. My combat level is 22. I'm not sure exactly why, so if anyone can explain how your combat level is determined...that would be great. My skills are as follows: Master Marksman, Master Architect, Scout 4000, Medic 0000, Novice Pistoleer 0000, Novice Bounty Hunter 0111. I'm also a rebel pilot at 2322.
My 'Limbo' situation is as follows: For me to gain a tier 2 elite skill, and consequently gaining 2 levels in combat from 22 to 24, I will need 250,000 xp. Now, with the weapons I currently rate (dps 30-150),I am gaining, on average, about 200 xp per kill. At this rate, I will need to kill 1250 beasts to go from Novice BH 0111 to Novice BH 0112. This will therefore raise me from combat level 22 to 24 which will not allow me to use any better weapons giving me a better chance to gain more xp. Now I understand that grouping is what I should do, however, I do not think the devs intended to take away soloing from us like this.
So, I did attempt to group and gain some xp during this 2x time period. When everyone in the group was getting 8k worth of xp, I was receiving 3,587 xp in my weapon (didn't matter which weapon I used) and about 350 combat xp. WHY? I put a ticket in to the csr's but have not received anything back yet.
Also, I am not able to do novice bounty missions anymore. I am killed instantly with even the lowest bounty levels. Is there a bug? If I group with someone and we get a mission that is close enough in level to our 'group', it changes to a lower levelfor some reason when we get out and find our mark. Therefore it causes me to only get 1 xp. If I have help but do not group, everyone else gets the xp because my weapons are so horrible.
Lastly, I am killed way too quickly. Mutant Womp rats now can hit me 3 or 4 times and I am incapped. This is obviously very frustrating. Even while wearing composite armor, these rats kill me easily.
What am I doing wrong?
Thank you for your time in reading this.

I have also noticed an oddity in the awarding of XP. I have a level 26 character and I am usually in a combat group with level 80 characters. The XP reward system reads like stereo instructions, but here's what I've interpreted.
1) Successful kills of any creature/npc is awarded a BONUS of 10% per level the creature is ABOVE yours.
2) Successful kills of any creature/npc is PENALIZED 10% per level the creature is BELOW yours.
3) If you join a group, your skill level is raised to match the highest level of any character in the group, for XP awards only, you don't get better skills.
ASSUMING I understand the award system listed above correctly, then there seems to be an error in the way XP points are actually being awarded. While in my group, the level 80 characters were gaining over 3k in XP where I would only pull 300. Perhaps the XP is supposed to based upon the amount of damage you do, but I find the XP reward is the same whether I hit a creature once or 100 times. IF I'm treated as a level 80 character while within this group, then I "should" be getting the same amount of XP. Since I'm not getting the same amount of XP, it could be deduced that it's awarding me at the actual level 26 that I am. If that's the case, then it seems to me the awards may be flip-flopped, I would "think" that the 10% bonus above my skill levels would have awarded me the higher bonus. Can't say I'm really complaining as it makes sense for higher level characters to make more XP from the kill, it just doesn't make sense from what I've read about "how" it supposed to work.
