Hmm.. you seem surprised that Sony, the biggest entertainmentorganization in the world, is more concerned about making money than they are about making a game that pleases everyone.. and since it is absolutely impossible to please anybody but the majority (which makes them the majority of their money), developing marketing schemes and ploysto keep the minority ofpeople playing for extended periods of time is just realistic from abusiness standpoint. I'm sure the DEVs want to put out a game that is great anda fun experience for the fans (it is for me anyway..)and people just coming to the Star Wars universe.. but the DEVs don't run the game unfortunatly.
Sony is a coporation. The point of a corporation is to make money for it's share holders. As such shareholder's profit takes top priority over the consumer. This means that most corporations are ready willing and able to screw their customers if they think it will make them a few more bucks.
Sadly what many corporation execs fail to realize, is that by trying to play customers for fools and screwing them, they're only hurting themselves in the long run. This isbecause by alienating your customers you lose repeat business, which is one of the most important things in marketing. I forget the exact amount, but there's a saying around the point that it's 6 times more expensive to get a new customer than keep a repeat customer. This means that Sony is losing profit because of all the people leaving over the recent Jedi nonesense, rather than what they probably thought would draw more people.
Of course, Sony probably failed to realize that the people leaving like to talk to other potential customers and discourage them from going to their game, and believe me this has a huge impact. Had the Jedi mess hadn't been so bad, I wouldn't have posted on some other boards and told my other friends that the game is a mess, and my doing so has convinced them to stay away from the game. Now I'm not leaving the game I'm sticking with it, but my voicing my displeasure of the current game and advising my friends as to the problems has made them second guess their wondering of whether or not to try the game.
good point, delete the thread, doesn't belong here

Rather than buying into this ridiculous timesink known as the "quest" to be a Jedi, I propose simply killingthe "old man" and enjoy playing the game with the standard and elite professions rather than grind a ludicrous amount of XP. Nice marketing coup SOE on many of the players, but like any astute observer I see right through it.This is a cleverattempt to "lock" a large group of new and old players for an extended period of time. Entice everyone with the god like powers of being a Jedi and then offer them a pratically unending road to this near mythical status. I wonder what othermarketing tricksSOE plans to roll out in the future?
sounds like your just angry because you dont have a jedi... or the old man hasnt talked to you yet..
