Rather than buying into this ridiculous timesink known as the "quest" to be a Jedi, I propose simply killingthe "old man" and enjoy playing the game with the standard and elite professions rather than grind a ludicrous amount of XP. Nice marketing coup SOE on many of the players, but like any astute observer I see right through it.This is a cleverattempt to "lock" a large group of new and old players for an extended period of time. Entice everyone with the god like powers of being a Jedi and then offer them a pratically unending road to this near mythical status. I wonder what othermarketing tricksSOE plans to roll out in the future?

The way i see it is nobody is forcing you to play this game. People come in here to complain, and last time i checked flaming the forums hasnt helped, you just cause more frustation then help. Let the company do their job, and since you know it all maybe you should make your own game, im sure that would go over well. /snog

Sony is a coporation. The point of a corporation is to make money for it's share holders. As such shareholder's profit takes top priority over the consumer. This means that most corporations are ready willing and able to screw their customers if they think it will make them a few more bucks.

Sadly what many corporation execs fail to realize, is that by trying to play customers for fools and screwing them, they're only hurting themselves in the long run. This isbecause by alienating your customers you lose repeat business, which is one of the most important things in marketing. I forget the exact amount, but there's a saying around the point that it's 6 times more expensive to get a new customer than keep a repeat customer. This means that Sony is losing profit because of all the people leaving over the recent Jedi nonesense, rather than what they probably thought would draw more people.

Of course, Sony probably failed to realize that the people leaving like to talk to other potential customers and discourage them from going to their game, and believe me this has a huge impact. Had the Jedi mess hadn't been so bad, I wouldn't have posted on some other boards and told my other friends that the game is a mess, and my doing so has convinced them to stay away from the game. Now I'm not leaving the game I'm sticking with it, but my voicing my displeasure of the current game and advising my friends as to the problems has made them second guess their wondering of whether or not to try the game.

Excellent response Kharn_JB! Hopefully others will understand the true dynamics of what is going on with SOE and SWG from your insightful comments.

This thread merely gets in the way of people getting information. It's a game guide forum, after all. Author, could you please help out the community and request this thread deleted?

If you do, I'll 5-star ya.

What I was getting at is that SOE makes decisions that it thinks will get it the most customers, rather than pleasing the most customers. Changing jedi, making them 'more fun', making becoming Jedi 'more fun', to attract more players, and yes, to string players along. However what SOE fails to realize is all of the consequences of doing so. A crippled economy due to overebundance of Jedi. In fact, the economy was actually better off with hologrinding because weaponsmiths sold more types of weapons and more in general to grinders, armorsmiths sold more armor from all the grinders, more brandy was sold, more doctor buffs purchased, and so on. The demand will slow down and many legitimate goods and service providers will feel it. Jedi have negatively effected the GCW with their 'uber power' and tosses non jedi around like rag dolls.

All in all, thelast twopublishes intended to make the game 'better' and 'more fun', have seemed to have done just the opposite, because SOE was only looking at the pluses of the changes, but not the long list of consequences.

didnt SOE "lock" you into the game in the first place when you bought it? This is content like all the other parts of the game. The only thing that concerns me is devs fiddling with switches and turning features on and off simply because the demand for such things is great. So while other customers are getting far more content, the unlucky ones that dont rush everything, who pay the exact same fee, are forced to sit on the sidelines while others enjoy the pleasures of SWG.

I don't want a lame ass Jedi. However, I do want my second character slot, so it looks like I'm screwed. From the latest that I heard, you have to be a full Padawan to open up the slot. Yippee for me.

Interesting responses but despitethe specific verbage I used in the post, it seems thatmy commentshas been, partially at least, misunderstood.

Nitross - You missed the point completly. The comments I made go far beyond an over simplified "flame" post.

MukeLandrunner - Surprised? No. That was not the feeling I was trying to impart, but I somewhat agree with your comments about the Devs.

Thornstar - You just about missed my point. SOE does not have me locked on anything because I play to enjoy the game on my terms, not to submit myself as a slave to a massive grind for god knows how long. On the surface this is new content butdon't fool yourself and think that the Devs are intotal control of SWG. Sure the have an influence over SWG but SOE, just like95% of big busineses out here will do whatever they feel they need to dosothey can to keep the $$$$$ coming in. If they feel that they can get away with thowing out a timesink like this and call it new contentthan that is what they will do.In addition other astute players have brought up the long term dangers to having a powerful unbalancing class such as the Jedi in a MORPG.
