Since the loot drops are so one-sided I wanted to know.... how do I become Reb? I have the -5000 standing, so what is the quickest and least painful way to get rid of it?

find a master smuggler and get him to transfer fp to you but it's costly.

What does it cost the smuggler and what is the typical markup?

Whatever it is, double it. Cos no doubt when the next loot upgrade comes and the reb npcs are dropping cool stuff, you will want to change back.
or you could judt do a trade with a reb player and save the hassle.

They're doing multiple waves of upgrades NOW. This is just the first. Here's hoping for equally desirable items from Rebel NPCs.

It would be cheaper and less of a headache to buy the posters then to buy the faction

Not to mention someone else does the hours of killing to find them

There is a great posting on this topic over at Smugglers' forums. A Smuggler's Guide to Selling Faction v1.3.
At FarStar, 125 credits per faction point seems to be the market level at the moment. I.e. a straight conversion from one faction into the other would cost 650k.
