Yesterday I was helping a guildmate out. Our guild needs a smuggler and she graciously agreed to give up Master Dancer so she could pick up smuggler. Now she had no combat skills whatsoever. She had never even fought in the game. So I take her over to Coronet, give her a VK and we find a goon spawn. I tell her to loot everything that drops, even the ones I kill (we are grouped) so that I can keep her targeted in case she needs heals. I buffed her and we proceeded to build her up to unarmed III in about two hours or so. Now she looted everything and the best she got were a set of Blue Rug Patches and a Vest with Combat Medic expirimentation +1 on it. She also got TONS of junk. She had to leave and since I still had a little time left on my buffs I figured I would harvest some loot as well. (I am Master Pikeman, so the points were meaningless.) Within ten minutes I had pulled a sculpture adhesive, orange patches, blue patches, blue dye, two sculpture coating #1s and a sculpture coating #2. I couldn't believe it.
What I am wondering is was this just really lucky or is there some sort of formula involved? I mean, because I killed so much (In the beginning I was offing about 90% of the goons; towards the end it was more in the 50% range) without looting, did the fact that I finally started looting trigger something?
Unfortunately this is nothing I will ever likely be able to duplicate. How often do you find someone who has never entered combat? If you guys get a chance to try this, let me know, as I am really curious about the whole situation.

I went through something similar. Partner and I were camping one of the rooms in the Geo cave. The loot was pathetic and then as soon as he stepped out of the room, I started getting wonderful loot. When he came back, it went back to junk. As a Master Pikeman, I can take down the entire Mokk Stronghold. If I am lucky, I will loot a very nice crystal about the time I am killing the very last, but I seem to find better loot (adhesives, patches, etc) off of Meatlumps outside of Coronet?
I don't get it.

Well, I semi attempted to replicate this today. I took my guildmate back and took her up to unarmed IV. Suffice it to say the loot was not even in the same galaxy as yesterday. If anything it was even less. Ah well...

You can take out the Mokk Stronghold solo? How do you get around the stone shapers (or whatever they are called) with their 100% kinetic resists?

Well... Now I feel like a complete idiot. LOL... I've gone to the Mokk Stronghold and hit the high road once those stone shapers came after me. All the while I had a vibro lanc in my backpack. I completely forgot it was a different kind of damage. Hehe... Can you still be a noob after a year and a half of playing??? ;-)

Ohhh still can't do the Rockshapers. But the nice thing is, they only do limited damage on me too. Luckily, they do not spawn in every wave. When I see one, I try to lure it about 100m away and pray it stays there while I plunder the place
As for the loot, well the Jinda cave gave up nothing but one or two units of horn and greens
and bad, useless weapons at the Aakuan cave...Oh well, I am convinced there is something more than randomness to the new loot implementation. Just gotta figure it out LOL

You know, I've often wondered whether there were "secret" formulas during character creation. My husband can loot the best stuff (lots and lots of adhesive) while I tend to get the junk, like a secret Luck bonus. But I tend to avoid aggros better than he does, like a secret "camoflague". In phase 4 he started calling me Teflon after he got killed five times by Sith Thugs and hadn't incapped once.
