Hi people,
Am a noobie looking to pick up my first set of composite armour as the ubese is no longer cutting the mustard...
So my question is - what are good HAM values to look for on a decent set of encumbrance sliced composite? Approximate values for each piece would be great, but even suggestions for a total figure on a set would help me out.
Also, what pieces do you need to ensure complete protection i.e. is helmet, chestplate, boots, pants enough? Or can I dispense with one of either the boots or the pants??
And finally....for good encumbrance sliced armour what'sthe best I can expect to get for kinetic and base values??
Cheers for the help, I really don't have a clue!!

I went for the stat migration method saves me a lot of hassle looking for 35-45% encumbrance slices on armor vendors, since those tend to fly off the vendor faster than anything.
What I did was this:
900 Health
800 Action
900 Mind
All other pools 465, except willpower: 475
I'm a human though, on my zabrak character I can't get over 400 in strength or constitution I think it is.
What this has done for me is make it so that even if I can't find a suit of the lowest encumbrance slices, I'll still be able to wear an encumbrance sliced suit of armor about 99% of the time, unless every piece has pretty awful slices to it.
I carry around two factory crates of vasarian brandy though at all times, and basically use it almost constantly, but I have to anyway in order to heal myself when fighting tough mobs.

Assuming u buy the best comp available on ur server (or not) then the best slice for armour is 45%. I have a bicept with
h 21
a 20
m 23
which was 32 30 35 and I recon thats pretty low ham cost. However really if u get urself a mind buff u can go effectiveness sliced and not get to full on mind food/drink.

Good question.
I have only been playing since 10-27-04 & have often wondered about reward vs encumbrance for a full set of composite armor.
I overheard someone say that only armor needed was Helm, Chest plate, Gloves, & Boots... the BE for rest....... anyone know & willing to help a few newbies out?
Thanks in advance for your help & time. ![]()

Armor that is necessary to have on:
Helmet
Chest
Pants
The occassional shot does go through the bicep / bracer / boots though, so unless you don't mind the random 1-shot kill, I'd suggest getting a full set of armor.
For most armor (that's of much use, at any rate) you have to be buffed to wear it. Most long-term players have migrated their stats to full mind bars, and allow buffs to be their Health and Action pools.
Is armor worth it? YES. Absolutely. Even crappy Composite (which I would call any armor with under 60% resists) increases your survivability by a ton.
Say an NPC is shooting you with a weapon and you are wearing standard composite with a 55% Energy rating.
Assume, additionally, that your opponent's weapon has an Armor Piercing rating of 0.
FIRST - Their damage is cut by 25%, as you are wearing Light armor and their weapon has 0 armor piercing.
THEN your 55% reduction takes place.
Example: NPC shoots you for 1000 damage. Lose 25% of that, down to 750 damage. Lose 55% of that, about 410 points, and it's down to 340 damage taken.
If you are grinding to gain experience, you don't need composite armor. Good kinetic Ubese or Padded armor will keep you up just fine for a fraction of the cost, provided you are levelling against melee MOBs. You should be able to find 70% - 80% kinetic Padded or Ubese on your server.
Hope that helps.

There are three ways to approach the armor issue (for non-Jedi anyhow):
1) Wear the lightest you can (Mabari, probably) to provide you the "light" armor level. That, against most things that do not have armor piercing of 1 or more, will cut your damage taken by 25%. This is a good opening strategy, and what I do with noob characters.
2) Wear armor you don't have to buff to get into. This is basically Ubese at most, likely good Chitin or really light comp, sliced for encumberance. Your stats will suck, and you will have high special move costs, but in general, you will take less damage than under option 1. No armor covers all the vulnerabilities though, save composite (and it still is like paper to stun damage, unless it's layered for it, which makes it heavy). There are smiths out there that will make unlayered comp. It'll be 60% or so base, at the most, but it'll be light. Sliced, you can get it down to the 450 HAM range, with excellent slices. I spent alot of time in 75% Ubese grinding pistols and TK, buffed, of course. This is fine as a grinding strategy.
3) Wear the heaviest armor possible (stun layered comp sliced for effectiveness), and buff to get into it. Migrate your stats to max your mind pool, because it's both hardest to buff and hardest to heal.In this case, it really doesn't matter what the enc is, and it can be upwards of 900 per stat (HAM). This method is the one most folks with a bit of money use. Reasons: The better the armor, the less it degrades with damage. In other words, 80% armor stops 80% damage and takes less damage to durability than that 15% Mabari. Your specials cost nothing or near nothing with enough buffs, no matter the weight of the armor you have. You will take negligible damage, and what you do take will regenerate FAST.
As to locations, I wear all pieces of armor. I don't like taking leg hits, and I find that when I wear no arm pieces, I take some big hits to the arms (even with gloves on). Like I said, it don't matter when you're buffed, so may as well wear the whole thing. Hard to say for certain without knowing JUST how the damage system works.

Thanks for the input everyone, I guess what I was really looking for islow encumbrance values for a set of composite that I could wear unbuffed after some stat migration.
Is however looking more and more like to achieve this I would have to skip out on some base and kinetic protection aswellas segments of the suit. Also, to keep health and action secondary stats at a reasonable levelwhen unbuffedwould give me very low mind indeed foranyfightingwhen buffed.
So looking like I'll have to opt for the standard increased mind stats and combat only when buffed.
Combat revamp anyone?Uber buffs are way too uber, it seems there's no tactics involved at all when assigning your stat points...

I fight NS elders et al with everything apart from legs. U can get bio clothes with 2 tissues like +4 melee def +18 stun and +18 medic with bio pants. The only time my action (legs) get hit is when my boots are failing in condition.
I learned that bracers and most probably bicepts are necessary for complete protection, on the corvette where I wore the normal combonation of helmet chest gloves, boots but I may as well have gone up with no chest plate cause I was one shot killed through the arm. I have had a duel wearing the right arm only of comp and my gloves and bracer stopped damage (didnt see any hits registering that the bicept had mitigated).
