I'm curious where I can find answers to questions like How many people currently play this game (total subscriptions)?

General questions like that.

To release this info would be death to the game. Better for them to give broad generalizations than hard numbers. According to some posts Ive seen, they say there are just as many people playing today as there were at launch.

There are some old astrometric stats you can look at, but nothing on total subs.

well maybe just as much as launch, but at launch you logged in for the first time and either went to talus or tatooine and 1,000 people were in each of the 3 main cities....soooo i don't really know how many people were playing at launch but i would say not that many and not that many are playing now, so that may actually be true.....however if you look at the stats from about a year ago or so you'll see that there was about 500,000 people playing and that is deffinatley not where they are at now...

From that chart it doesn't really look like SWG is losing too many customers overall, just a good jump at the initial release and a pretty steady horizontal line since then. Interesting chart at least

After performing some fancy calculations based on a census of the number of Rebels on Starsider, I've concluded that there are between 67,500 and 135,000 playing SWG. Kind of a large range I know, but in either case it is a healthy number of players.

mmogchart is a really good site. SOE slightly skews their subscriptions numbers in that Station Passes are listed under EQ subscriptions, so EQ's numbers will be slightly artificially inflated.

The MMOG market is very different than it was a few years ago, instead of building player bases the companies find themselves competing for players from the same pools. Personally, I don't see how SOE can compete with similar products with their substandard development and customer service. SWG is also a bit different than ____ MMOG because a lot of their players don't play other MMOGs and choose SWG, they are a unique player base, they play because it's Star Wars and it's different than the typical cookie-cutter MMOG...but it is a player base being alienated with the revamp.

Tip to LEC/SOE: Sci-Fi MMO players don't necessarily belong to the same resource pool as fantasy MMO players.
