1. Open up notepad

2. Paste the following

[SwgClient]

allowMultipleInstances=true

3. Save this file as user.cfg in your SWG folder in your program files

not sure what you want to do, and I know this has been posted many times before, but what I do is alt-tab out of SWG, and change users in WinXP. Once I am logged in as the other user I load SWG like normal with my other character. This wont allow you to alt-tab between characters, but it will allow you to buff your characters or otherwise have two active characters in game on the same computer.

for your other question, you sue the same .exe as the first, and when you try to load up your other character and you get a message talking about how your DirectX is not working right, then you need to be on that one client intill it gets to the loading screen

..I hope that helped if it didnt reply to this

I tried and tried for weeks and never could get it to work

Finally instead of naming the file user.cfg I typed USER.CFG (Caps) finally it works

What probably happened is when you saved the file in notepad.exe it saved it as user.cfg.txt and there's an option in Windows Explorer that says "Hide extensions of known file types" that hides the .txt, so the file looked like it was named user.cfg when it was actually not. When you renamed it in Windows Explorer it renamed it from user.cfg.txt to USER.CFG, removing the .txt.

In notepad before you save the file, you need to change the setting near the bottom of the Save As window where it says "SaveAs Type" from "Text Documents (.txt)" to "All Files". That would have solved your file name problem from the start.

*edit* I wou;dn't use the user switching... That seems like so much more of a pain in the butt. You can Alt-Tab if you just make the user.cfg file.

Some of my pet peeve bugs:
•Armorsmith protection layers were not converted with the CU.
•Ship Details window does not close when you click "Travel" resulting in the message "You have lost the target. Closing interface."

First let me say, yes i have seen the SEVERAL topics on this already, and yet I'm still here. I have created the new file, made sure its named right, right file type, opened in notepad and text is correct with spelling and spaces removed, even did the windows exploror method and made sure everything is check and unchecked that should.

But still i cant lauch the second game. Do i use the same .exe to launch the second game, that i used to launch the first? If you can help me or are still having probs to, let me know. my e-mail is [email protected] .

Thanks for any help at all

What operating system are you using?

You might want to try running the game in full screen windowed mode with a borderless window if you want to ALT+TAB between clients.

You can set that from the launchpad.

Or you might try matching the resolution and refresh rate of your desktop and the game. That way it has an easier time switching without having to change video modes. I found that sometimes that used to cause it to crash.

Just right clickon any blank space on your Windows desktop and select Properties, then click the Settings tab and note the resolution you have the desktop set at. Then click the Advanced button and the Monitor tab and check the refresh rate. (higher = better and easier on the eyes)

Next, when you are launching SWG, click on the Launchpad Options, and the Graphics Tab. Then select a resolution and refresh rate that matches your desktop. Either that, or you can change your desktop settings to match SWG... either way. If the refresh rate you have set on your desktop doesn't show up on SWG launchpad Options the list, you can change it manually.

I like to play at 1280 x 1024 @ 100 Hz refresh rate, so I select 1280 x 1024 @75 Hz(or whatever the max selection in the Launchpad Options is) and then I open the file named "options.cfg" in the StarWarsGalaxies folder and I edit the line that reads:

fullscreenRefreshRate=75

and change it to 100. (and save the file)

It works perfectly for me and since the desktop settings and SWG settings match it stays in the same video mode when switching so it's faster and easier on the monitor and everything else.

*Note: The developers suggest that you do not edit these files. Do so at your own risk... and... don't sue me.

/agree it is kind of a pain, but since I have only felt the need to do this twice in the last year and a half it is not too big a deal. Plus I am afraid to change any files in my computer since I know too little about them already.
