Thread: Can You Land DOT's with weapons you arent certified for?

was thinking of buying a sweet mind fire lance with like 250 power on it. i am not a brawler, will i be able to use it, obviously not ceritifed for lances in anyway and get the DOT to stick?

No you will not be able to use it, you must be certified. Glad you asked eh?

actually you can use it, unless they changed it. You can equip and use any weapon certed or not. However, when you equip it you will get a message about your damage being diminished when using it. Obviously with a DoT you are not worried about damage of the weapon, but then you have to worry about accuracy and defense. You will find with uncerted weapons that you will hit very rarely, if at all. Against low level MOBs you will have greater success, but against high end MOBs and players (which may be why you want the DoT) you will have an extremely low success rate. So low that IMO it is not worth using them because you have no defenses with the weapon (which by itself could mean your end), a very low chance to hit, all the while your opponent is eating you alive, and then when you finally get it to stick, you have the transfer timer to deal with. Overall not a good option just to have a DoT weapon.

as a matter of fact you can, you can use any weapon in the game. Damage will be greatly reduced and you dont have any defenses for the weapon you are using. So the problem is the dot might take to long to stick and your getting spanked in the process.

you cannot, they released a patch along time ago that changed it so that you had to be certified to use a weapons dot, and unless someone provides a video of them using a weapon they arent certified in and the dot sticking, which they cannot provide
dont buy the weapon unless you know someone who can use it properly and is on your side

Meet me at Ahazi - bring me any polearm weapon with DOT or give me time to grab some from the house and we can test it pretty fast.

You CAN use a DOT from any weapon even if you arent certified. I do this all the time with my jedi. I use my NS Lance with a 270 Str 90% Mind poisen and it works just fine.

tested and the above poster is correct, tryed with a NS lance with like a 80% potency and had no problem landing a dot, obviously no damage was done etc.
