Thanks a ton. I want to work up one tree of heavy weaposn just for Krayts. IF Commando has those advantages it looks like I'll be switching from LLC. I do appreciate the input.
Commando is the only proffesion that can kill an ancient other than a jedi, BUT... heres the thing, just bring a good tank ![]()
I can solo a canyon krayt easy, BUT... its not fun, you can do it practically afk if you have a good tank (i.e. master brawler/master melee using a /warcry2;/intimidate2;/taunt; macro)

First of all, a jedi is not the only one who can kill an ancient solo. A rifleman with enough time (meaning noone else jumps in the fight) can solo an Ancient with /conceal shot easy and a swordsman can solo one providing they have prepared right and have uber armor. it takes just a little bit longer than killing a NS Elder (I know because i have done it recently and got nothing for my effort, not even xp because I'm capped)......although it's probably not a good thing to solo them with any profession because it will take too long and ancients don't like to drop loot often enough compared to canyons (they seem to drop loot 7 out of10 times).
As far as commando soloing a krayt, I highly doubt anyone can do it very easily due to the fact that commando has nearly zero defenses and anything other than a juvenile krayt will have the commando dizzy/KD in a split second, plus you will be intimidated, blinded and stunned...... The bleeds are great if your in a group or have a tank, otherwise they take way too long to tick and the bleed is what does majority of the damage....ancients are 95% resistant to everything except lightsabers, so a flamer which has no AP will not do much damage aside from the bleed. Now if the commando has a tank, then he's potent.....Had a commando hit an ancient for 10k earlier today in our group....hehe just burn baby!!!!
The biggest difference with rifles is that the T21 has heavy armor peircing, so it suffers no damage penalty from a krayt except the resist of the krayt, all other normal professions suffer a penality from the resist and the heavy armor rating of the krayt. Juvi's, canyons and giants are childs play for a master rifleman. Ancients can be a big problem but enough patience and a rifleman can win easy.....The power of the T21 (the only weapon in the game with heavy AP) is why rifleman outdamage every profession in the game....yes even jedi (I've outdamage 4 jedi before
)A master lightsaber jedi can probably compete though. Actually the only time a rifleman can be outdamaged by a jedi is when the target has very high resist to everything (like ancient krayts).Since Elders only have 25% resist to energy, a rifelman can outdamage a jedi there too (that's where I bet 4 jedi before). Whena rifleman is hitting for upwards of 5k damage persecondit takeslegendary weapon for other professions to compete.....so sad that AP is going away though, rifleman will soon be slow asdirt
The biggest thing for a rifleman other than being able to /conceal shot krayts without being detected is that once a canyon or ancient krayt have their HAM down to half or so, the resist drop fast (just like Elders).....once that happens, the krayt doesn't have a chance as long as /conceal shot doesn't drop a bleed on the krayt.....
A swordsman (maybe a well put together pike template too) can tank any krayt pretty easy. As long as the KD/Dizzy defense is high, you keep it intimidated and have excellent armor, tanking is easy, ya don't even have to be speed capped....i've seen a swordsman that wasn't even master tank acanyon krayt with ease.
Just remember, no matter what template you have, it's not a good idea to solo an ancient.....the rate that they drop great loot is too low to spend 30 - 40 minutes soloing them. I mean you can do it if you want....but it's more productive if you get a nice group of people you trust and do it as a team...you can take down ancient after ancient and not have to worry about low drop rates.
For instance, My guild went krayt hunting today....we ended up with a little over 200 tissues (4 backpacks full and some in my inventory), 4 flawless pearls, 7 premium pearls and about 50 or so scales.....that was about 5 hours of hunting giants and ancients. Now how many ancients can a solo person kill in 5 hours or how much loot would a solo person get in that time.....hell, will a solo player even survive long at all when your fighting one krayt and 2 more spawn near you and attack....that's the tough part now that the devs increased the spawn. I was attacking an ancient the other day and 3 more ancients spawned within 10 meters of me......good ole feign death saved jedi xp loss ![]()
Anyway, if you do want to solo a krayt, the best professions are Rifleman, Jedi, Swordsman, Pikeman because they all do insanely high damage and can focus it all in one HAM bar. With your extra skill points spent in the right defensive categories of fencer, TKM or pistoleer and you get some 80/80/80 70 Base composite armor and your all set to go solo hunting. All other professions are either too slow, don't do enough damage or have too little defense to solo a krayt...but it still can be done, just not consistantly.....

A M fencer/pistoleer 0040/doc 4030 can tank better than a TKM, and a handfull of swordsman can too.

First of all, you are correct if you are speaking from the point of view that a person has only one profession.....if your just a TKM and nothing else, then yes a TKM can tank better than any other single profession that doesn't dabble.
However, dabbling changes the thing completely.
See, you must have never been a pike before.....I have done every single combat profession and besides commando and BH, I've spent a minimum of 3 months on each profession (but no hologrinding here).....only reason I didn't stay a BH or Commando for long is because their defense sucks and I'm a defensive guy so it really wasn't my taste, plus they didn't have enough skill points left for BH back in the day for me to get any defensive skills....same with commando because I refuse to drop medic and scout at that point (this was before mounts).
As far as tanking, you have to remember that every serious combatant will have 2 or 3 master elite professions (mostly melee)....this means that your defenses will be pretty high. Then add SEA's and the FS RD & MD trees and that makes you even better. So when someone says they can tank as a pike, it doesn't mean that they only have pike, but they have pike and dabble in one or more of the other elite professions.
Personally, the best tanking i've every done in this game was when I was a pike and fencer (dabbled in either pistoleer or tkm too). Also, the best tank in the game is fencer hands down. The reason why is because the term tank means that you get up close and personal with your enemy and draw their attention so that they focus all their attacks on you......you absorb those attacks or make them miss while your support (or heavy firepower) takes down the enemy.....there is no better profession atmaking someone miss than a master fencer......andforcing someone tototally miss you is the greatest defense in anything you do. A tank is not someone who does it all. If you happen to be a offensive powerhouse as well as a defensive one....then you are the ultimate tank (which at this point in the game it can be achieved).
Also, a lot of people fail to realize that the def vs mods and the RD, MD, block, dodge, counterattack are not the only defense a profession can have.....there is other defense some professions have....they are offensive moves that are more defense rather than inflicting the most damage. Pikes have the best offensive moves that are used for defense and that equals better tanking if used rightn (especially multiple enemies). Pikes have multiple status effects with one single move and which most are also area attacks. From my own personal experience, the only profession that can keep a target dizzy, KD, stunned, blinded longer than a pike is a master fencer....and that's only because the fencers attacks seem to stick easier than other professions (don't know why).....but as a master fencer, I could stick a status effect extremely easy without having to do the attack 10 times to get them to stick......it usually never took me more than 2 attacks to stick an effect, 3 at the most.
Now I really don't care if anyone believes what i say or not....but before you can judge, you have to play every combat profession extensively verse many different mobs and also in pvp. I just have to say that when I was a pike (along with my other skills) I rarely hit the ground and on my back and I kept my opponent down or affected by states so much that it was hard for them to do the same to me. When I was a fencer, I went about 4 months without a single death and rarely got incapped.....I tell you there was not better defensive profession than fencer......when you add in the uber armor, you have a monster defense (you just gotta pick the right trees from each profession and get the right SEA's...that's the key)
AND THIS IS ALL AFTER DEFENSE STACKING GOT NERFED.
honestly before the def. stacking nerf....a master fencer/master pistoleer was untouchable....unfortunately they didn't have much firepower themselves.....good thing the DE-10 wasn't out back then....I can only imagine the complaints...lol
So I hope this explains where pikes come from...it's not about what profession you are, it's how you prepare it and use it....a smart man knows his weaknesses and will do all he can to limit them or if possible, make them a strentgh....Offesnsive moves and power will always be there, but it's not what determines the victor....ever heard the phrase "defense wins games"......oh how very true it is, because if you can't hit your target, you cando a 2 million damage special and never win........don't understand that, then you don't understand true combat...and that goes for any kind of game, trust me ![]()
