I have a pistol that needs rebuilt. My problem is that it only has 33.85% of its life left.
Is there anything I can do to help my chances of a successful rebuild?
1) I already have a 100% rebuild kit
2) I heard standing in front of a weapon crafting machine helps - is this true?
3) I heard that a master weaponsmith should do the rebuild - is this true?
4) Is it possible for someone to be capped at like +25 for weapon repair?
Any input at all would be very helpful. Thank you!

If you use an anti-decay kit on it, I think it would fix it to 100%, not sure if that's on live or on the TC though.

Can anyone confirm this? If you put a anti-decay kit on a weapon, will it repair it to full health?
My understanding is this is NOT the case, but I may be wrong.

- Anti Decay Kits will now reset the item it is being used on to maximum hitpoints. Items that have already had Anti Decay applied will also be reset to maximum hitpoints.

Interesting thread, and there are so many unknowns. For example, of Repair, Weapon Repair, and Armor Repair, which skill mod works? Is the rumor that Jedi with the repair tree can also repair weapons 100% of the time true? These are questions that we need answered by someone in the know.
As an aside, if you use the anti-decay kit on your gun, and you plan on reusing the decay kit, you have to destroy the gun. So unless you have access to a steady stream of high quality weapons, the anti-decay kit is mostly a one use type of deal.

Hey, just be warned... your anti-decay kit can be used to do this and the gun will never decay again from use or from decay resulting from death...but you rkit will be used. You CAN getthe anti-decay kit back after you do this and use it on something else, but in order to do this you must destroy the gun.

I've never heard anything reliable about repair. Most of the master weapon/armorsmiths I've spoken to insist that it's Yet Another Random Roll and that mastery doesn't give them better results than anyone else. Some people insist that the various repair mods work, and people with FS Repair supposedly do better than those without.
What makes a difference with the roll? Probably the same things that make a difference with an assembly roll, which is to say, who knows.
Seriously though, I would suspect that there's very little that makes a difference. As with crafting, there's probably always some minimum percent chance to fail. If mods/FS skill/master ws/as make any difference, it'll be the same kind of difference as city/FS assembly bonus - better chance of a good result, but nothing that can be firmly documented without extensive testing.
If the pistol is that important, then yes, the answer is use/buy an anti-decay kit. Or don't put it in a position to get decay in the first place. Given the value of the ADKs, it's also worth considering whether the pistol really is that important or, alternately, if you'll be willing to destroy it to retrieve the ADK some day.
Me, I tend to grind my stuff down to 25-33% and then attempt a repair (at home, after healing, before logging out). I'd say I fail somewhere around 1/5 (20%), but that's on a really small sample, statistically speaking. Of course, I've yet to repair anything that was anything remotely resembling unique or valuable.
The only piece of worthwhile advice I've seen on the subject is this: Check your equipment status before committing to a hunt (getting buffed, inviting friends, etc) and after you finish. Do your repairs when you have time to shop for a replacement. Unless the item is about to break (reach 0) anyway, never repair in the field, during buffs, or even just before hunting. Better a weakened piece of armor or weapon than a broken one, but if it's about to break anyway, it's worth a shot.

Or, another tip is to repair it before the condition drops too low because a Dev once said that the chances of failure increase the closer you get to 0 condition.
... hold ...
... almost got it ...
YAY! I found it ... This is from a Tuesday's Tip September 14th 2004. Straight from ThunderHeart
----------------------------
Weapon Decay
Weapons decay with usage; each time you use it, the item decays. When the condition of the weapon reaches 25% of the item's maximum total condition, the weapon’s minimum and maximum damage starts to decay. The item reaches a decay threshold at the 25% mark.

For every 1% below the 25% condition threshold, the weapon’s minimum and maximum damage is decreased by 1%. This usage decay will drop a weapon's effectiveness down to 0.
What you can do when your weapon reaches 25% is to "roll the dice" and try to repair your weapon. It's a long shot, but it is a chance to get your weapon repaired. A weapon repair kit is an old fashioned dice roll chance to repair your weapon. If you "get a good dice roll" and repair a weapon (or have it repaired for you) back above the 25% threshold, the weapon’s initial min/max damage is restored. For smugglers, slicing in no way effects the rate at which a weapon decays, but a sliced weapon will make the weapon repair even chancier than it already is. Weaponsmiths have a slightly greater chance of repairing a weapon than other professions. Additionally, trying to repair a weapon with less than 25% gets more and more risky with each percentage point and will probably destroy the weapon outright.
