Thread: Negative Skill Tape Question

Hi.

I had a look at the FAQ, but there is no info on using skill tapes with negative values.

I have been offered this skill tape:

Droid Experimentaion +10

Rifle Accuracy while moving -12

Any sugestions on how it could be used, so I get the droid experimentaion points, not the Rifle Accuracy?

Thanks!!

According to the current customer service help database (found by searching the "customer service" database in the in-game holocron), if a tape has two or more skill mods, the first listed one is the only one that takes effect. In this case, if you just ignored the negative rifle accuracy mod, then you should be okay (in effect, this equivalent to a single mod, +10 droid experiment tape).

Note that this is not a guarantee that in the future a patch won't make the negative mod show up retroactively, and I would recommend you read the database article first before doing it (read: submit a /bug report and don't blame meif it doesn't work as documented). The one tape I have used like this worked like this, but I have only tried this with one tape.

Not being at home and as a result not being able to get into the knowledgebase in the game, I have to ask.. do you recall if it mentions about a single stat skilltape? I have run across a few -1 modifiers where they were the only modifier on the tape..

Hehe, I found a -1 skill tape that I believe was to medical experimentation or some such. I laughed my head off when I found it, raced home, and put it in a grey long formal jacket (which just looks evil btw, lol) and named it "Evil Cursed Medical Jacket". To my dissappointment, the skill mod did not show up in the jacket however, and it poofed The really funny thing though was that I put this jacket on my vendor and it sold anyway, rofl.

The customer service help database is wrong, then. The skill enhancement with the highest number is the one which will take effect. If a tape has two enhancements, both with the same number, THEN the first one listed will take effect.

If I have a piece of clothing that has 1 socket free and already has +4 pistol speed in it, what will happen if I drop a tape in that has -9 pistol speed and +7 unarmed damage on the same tape? Will it overwrite the +4 pistol speed and give me +9 speed or will it leave the +4 speed and give me +7 unarmed damage? Or maybe will it erase all the pistol speed and just give me +7 unarmed damage?

Any help on this would be appreciated. Thanks.

Currently skill tapes work like this:only the highest mod on the tape will have any effect. When there are two equal value skill mods on a tape, I believe it will take the one that is listed first when you examine it.

So when you use that tape it will make your piece of clothing +4 pistol speed and +7 unarmed damage.

if you still have 1 socket left it will just take the +7 unarmed damage. when you have a skill tape that has more then one increase on it the highest + will be what is applied. and if it is the same than whichever is listed first will apply.

Thanks for the help.

I was hoping to get the +9 speed in somehow. If I had put the -9 pistol speed and +7 unarmed damage in first, then the +4 pistol speed would that had made any difference? Or would I need to find a +8 unarmed damage to get the +9 pistol speed?

From that skill tape you could never get +9 pistol speed no matter what the other skill mod was. If it didn't have any other skill mods it would be a -9 pistol speed tape and be absolute junk.

Negative skill mod tapes are useless unlessthey haveanother skill mod on them, it would be better off to just destroy it.
