Does anyone know how to get windows XP to let you run multiple SWG clients without having to switch usernames?

Each time you open the client, it will ask you for your username/password. That logs into the account. If you opened the client multiple times, each individual account has to be signed into.

You CANNOT run two characters from the same account at once. It always requires multiple accounts.

First create a file in your default Star Wars Galaxies folder (IE: C:\Program Files\StarWarsGalaxies) called "user.cfg".

Then edit the user.cfg file with notepad. Add the following lines:

[SwgClient]
allowMultipleInstances=TRUE

Save the files and close. Now run your game like normal, and load into the game world. Once your first charecter is loaded into the world, load SWG again the same way, only login with your other account. The game should load like normal, and depending on your system might play a little slower, but now you have both charecters in!

When in game press the alt + tab key to switch between game clients and your good to go.

When you make the user.cfg file be sure you have your system set so you can see the complete file name the system created. I had to reinstall WinXp and did not remember to do this. The system tacked on .txt and the file would not work. It was not until I reconfigured windows so I could see the whole file name that I figured this out.

"When Sony and Lucas set out, we said, 'How can we do this and not make another EQ?' We didn't want it to be all about Luke, or combat, or lock our players into a class. So we created a system that would allow players to switch professions during the game, and there would be a lot of gameplay around making that change. If you want to go from architect to scout we've created a system to make that happen." - Julio Torres

The actual error message you got would have been more helpful. If its something to the effect of not being able to initialize directX, its probably cause you didn't let the first one load, or you alt-tabbed out while the second one was loading. To avoid this problem, get the first one all the way into the game, then alt-tab out and load the second one till that one is all the way into the game too. Then you can start alt-tabbing between them.

I highly suggest you turn off the sound on the 2nd acct when you start it up. When running 2 accts sound for 2 accts at once can cause crashes or really bad issues. If you disable the sound on the launcher for the 2nd acct, you will have much better results
