The method I use is pretty easy.

Take out the escort without shooting the vette. The vette will not aggro you unless you shoot it.

Stay behind and slightly underthe vette. You can determine the bottom/top by binding a key to autolevel or something similar.

At around 6000m away from the rebel station, get a missle lock and fire a good spacebomb at the Primary Sheild generator.

/iffscramble when the vette starts shooting.

Get a missle lock and fire a good spacebomb at the Primary Sheild generator. Pull a 180 degree turn and boost away before the missle hits. This will prevent the vette from shooting you.

Wait for you shields to regen and boost straight at the engines, firing like crazy. It should disable quickly.

what i did was fly under it and take out weapon 5 first.

once that is out you need to peek out and hit the 2 shields, but go just until you get a lock, you can go out a decent way left or right without getting hit by those side guns. i do this fairly early and matchspeed and sit just behind the radar tower until about 5300, or what ever the other guide says to disable,(not positive about the distance) out. then i slow down and finish the engine.

by getting the weapon and shields down early you make it much easier to get the timing right to get the corvette disabled. that gunship is a bear and he is a heck of a tracker.

I agree with the second posters suggestion, although I use Concussion MK IIIs (I'm a cheapskate), and I followed the Vette to it's exit point and marked it with a Waypoint before going in to do the quest proper. This allows me to do the mission for my friends very easily.

I've read all the threads on how to solo the corvette for this mission by just riding right up on its tail where it cant shoot you. From there its easy to take out weapon 6 and 7, but everything else (other weapons and both shields require you to peak out to far from behind the vette...those guns start pounding me and I can only absorb 2 or 3 direct hits before I'm toast. Is there a better strategy to solo this thing so I can get the heavy x-wing? I am a 4/4/3/3 pilot by the way. I heard that you can get hurt if you are underneath the bottom of the vette as well, but how do I tell which part of the vette is the bottom? is it the one with weapon 5?
