I've heard that it's from the day the account was created, but I'm pretty sure that's not true... then I heard that it's all the total days the account has been active... and once again... I'm almost positive that's not true either... the numbers just don't work for either of those suggestions... does anybody know for a fact how they're calculated?

It's the total number of consecutive days since the account was last activated.
If you cancel your account, or it lapses for any reason, then the counter resets and begins again from zero when the account is reactivated.
Wedo get a "grace period" of a few days wherethe account can be inactive without resetting the timer - in case of any payment problems outside ofour control, and so that people using game time cards don't have their vet reward time reset every time they register a new card.

As far as I know, they changed that so its however many days you've had the account active, so if you played for2 months, quit for another, and started playing again, you should have 60 days.
I think thats right. I've had an inactive alt I recently reactivated and had the days counted from before the account was cancelled.
I could be wrong though.

Ah well, all I can say is that is how they said it was going to work. I should know better by now than to listen to anything they say.
I would test it myself, but the only time I'll ever cancel my accounts is the day the servers gosunset

YES:
It is the "total" amount of "server UPTIME hours" from the day/hour/min/sec your account was created.
