Maybe some of you with Wookiee chars, or who are weaponsmiths or rifleman can help me out...

I remember that Wookieesare supposed to be able tocraft & use Bowcasters without having to become weaponsmiths or rifleman, & I know all wookiees have the schematic for the bowcaster... But my question is, how do you go about doing this? Do you just craft one & use it with the skill of a rifleman? Or, is there some sort of "no skillpoint cost" leveling process to go through tobe able tocraft a nice bowcaster & be able to use it proficiently?

I have heard both, & can't find an official answer anywhere. I am thinking of changing my Wookiee char from a Musician/Medic/Doc to something more combat oriented. For RP reasons I like the idea of him being able to use a Bowcaster, but watching that big lug do unarmed & melee is pretty fun too. Ideally he would keep musician to do gigs with my other dancer chars, & would spend the rest of the points on combat.

If he can craft & use a bowcaster well without crafting or marksman/rifleman skills, or if there was no point costs with leveling in these skills for bowcasters only, then I would probably do that & spend the points on melee skills... but if not i'm not sure what I should do.

Any advice is appreciated.

any wookie can make a bowcaster but only a wookie weaponsmith can make a really nice bowcaster. the bowcaster is like a cdef pistol.. you can use it even if you're not a marksman because there is no certification required.. well other than being a wookie. To be really proficient with it, you'll still need to be a rifleman but you can at least take advantage of having some sort of weapon that doesnt require at least 15 skill points to use. So, essentially.. its a wookie only cdef

One other good thing about bowcasters, at least lately....

I've noticed that I tend to loot a number of really nasty DoT'ed bowcasters. Getting them off of rancors ( ?) and factional NPC's. I've gotten 3-4 each Mind Fire (60+% pot.), Action Fire, Health Fire ones. And numerous poison's.

Been giving them to the only rebel wookiee rifleman that I know of on my server
