I have a long list of E-mails that I send to new players when I meet them. They always seem to find something useful in them and appreciate it so I am posting them here. Hope you find it useful.

Backup your macros

In your StarWarsGalaxies/{account} directory in Windowsyou will find a file called macro.txt

This file contains all the macro's you have created on that computer for that account. If you have more than one account or more than one computer, you can transfer your macro's by copying that file over.

StarWarsGalaxies contains the alias.txt file that contains any alias' you have created.

Copy these files to another folder to create backups.

Alias
This is a very kool command. I discovered it when I was squad leader to add color to the sysgroup command. It works like this, type:
/alias sg /sysgroup \\#00FF00\\
Now when a squadleader types:
/sg
the message appears in green. I also use it to shorten common commands like:
/alias tj /tell sloppy-jo
Now I just type:
/tj
to send tells to sloppy-jo. Very handy for my friends that Isend tellsto alot with long or with hard to spell names

Copy/Cut/Paste

You can activate cut,copy,paste by going to the options window (ctrl o) and selecting keymap under the controls section. Under the chat tab, select Edit Chat Copy and rebind it (I used ctrl+alt+c for copy). Do the same for cut and paste (ctrl+alt+x and ctrl+alt+v respectively).

You cannot copy from the email read screen, you have to forward the email to make it editable to copy from it.

You can copy to and frommacro's, email, and notepad this way.

Useful Commands

You can make a macro for setting the name and adding ppl to admin on stuctures like a harvestor.

/setpermission Admin
/nameStructure

You can bring up the paymaintenance screen with the command:
/paymaintenance

To send a tell to someone in another galaxy, you type:

/tell Tempest.ravenprime

or

/tell Shadowfire.raveprime

Remember to capitalize the T in tempest and S in shadowfire or the first letter in whatever galaxy you tell to. Also works in emails.

You can add ppl in other galaxies to your friends list too:

/addfriend Tempest.ravenprime

or

/removefriend Tempest.ravenprime

to drop me you cannot use the remove in the friends list, you have to use the /remove command.

There is a command /tellpet {command}

where {command} is what ever you trained your pet.

It does NOT work with single letter commands.

I use ff for follow and so

/tellpet ff

calls my pet when it is stuckand works at much longer ranges than just ff or /shout ff, usually upto 100 m usually or line of sight.

/tellpet store

works at very long ranges and is useful when your pet is bugged and wont store through the data pad, this will store it then.

Sampling Macro

No healing skill required but may need to tweak the pauses depend upon your specific stats.

/sample;
/pause 300;
/sit;
/pause 150;
/stand;
/ui action toolbarSlot12

Crafting Macro

Drag and drop your crafting devices into bottom row slots 1,2,3, and 4. That's 4 DIFFERENT crafting devices and they can be in your backpack. The macro is case sensitive!

/ui action toolbarSlot12;
/selectDraftSchematic 03;
/pause 6;
/nextCraftingStage;
/nextCraftingStage;
/nextCraftingStage;
/createPrototype practice no item;
/createPrototype pracitce no item;
/pause 1;

/ui action toolbarSlot13;
/selectDraftSchematic 03;
/pause 6;
/nextCraftingStage;
/nextCraftingStage;
/nextCraftingStage;
/createPrototype practice no item;
/createPrototype pracitce no item;
/pause 1;
/ui action toolbarSlot14;
/selectDraftSchematic 03;
/pause 6;
/nextCraftingStage;
/nextCraftingStage;
/nextCraftingStage;
/createPrototype practice no item;
/createPrototype pracitce no item;
/pause 1;
/ui action toolbarSlot15;
/selectDraftSchematic 03;
/pause 6;
/nextCraftingStage;
/nextCraftingStage;
/nextCraftingStage;
/createPrototype practice no item;
/createPrototype pracitce no item;
/pause 1;
/macro Crafting

You'll have to use some trial and error to figure out which number is the schematic you want to use, you can start by counting down in your datapad (start counting with 0 not 1). This uses up your resources but doesn't make anything--practice no item is practice mode. Delete "practice no item" if you want to make it but i don't know why you would since you are not experimenting.

The very last line loops the macro. To stop the cycle, move the macro to a different slot or type

/dump

Depending upon your timing for your specific schematic and computer speed, you may have to increase the pauses.

Very nice guide!

The only thing I can think of you could add to that would be an explanation of the /ui action toolbarSlot XX system, most people don't understand that every action and every button in the game has a writable / command Just remember that your F1 toolbar slot is actually /ui action toolbarSlot00;and don't forget that Capitalization and Semi-colons are extremely important!

Man, now you got me on a roll..... How bout also including the /board transport( /bo tr ) explanation? That has given me a new found love for this game

Oooo, another pet peeve of mine, it is so obvious in game who knows about modifying their chat tabs and who doesn't. You can be standing right in front of someone and if they are on the Group Chat tab or Guild Chat tab and have a window or two open, you can send them tells or spatial chat messages all day long and they'll never know! Right click on your chat tabs and add other chats to that tab so you can see them all at once, or do like I did and drag and drop your guildchat tab to another location on your screen and have spatial and spam in one window and guild chat, group chat and /tells in the other window! Never miss anything is my motto

Some good additions. Thanks.

Boarding shuttles

You have to be standing still for 3 seconds for the server to fully register your location and allow you toboard the shuttles or starports. The same rule applies when placing a house or other structure. I can only guessits a safeguard or some other necessary evil that we should be grateful for rather than complain about.

/board transport

or simply

/board

will open up the board shuttle window to allow you to select your ticket. Double clicking on your ticket does the same thing btw.

At shuttles, this works at the ticket terminal, so if the shuttle is present, don't run to the collector and wait 3 secs only to see the shuttle take off, just type /board or open your inventory and double click the ticket.

There is a comparable command that is well described in the following thread and I will not bother plagerizing it here.

purchase ticket

Chat tabs

You can add and modify chat tabs by right clicking on the tab. You can also simply drag and drop the chat tab out of the box to make a new box with just that tab in it. Closing the new box simply restores that tab to the original box.

I often pull my combat tab off in order to watch the dmg I do and takewhile still being able to see my spacial to keep track of my messages. I also keep and tab showing only instant messages so that if I am AFK or go into tell hell, all I have to do is goto that tab to catch up.

Also, don't forget the standardshortcuts for group chat, guild chat and so forth

/say{message} 'puts your message in spacial

/r {message} 'is your standard IM reply

/g{message} 'puts your message in group chat

/gu{message} 'puts your message in guild chat

If you add all your chats to your default spacial window, then you just use the above shortcuts or alias'. My biggest peeve is ppl who talk in spacial while everyone in else uses group chat.

//

brings up a list of all commands for SWG.

//ui action

shows all the action commands. ui stands for user interface of course.

I did not intend this to be a programmers guide to SWG, my intent was to help new players with some of the basics. But please reply all you want with your own suggestions and additions.

A little oops on the purchase ticket url. It should not have that trailing / in the address which causes an error. When the window pops up and shows no message, the just delete that trailing / and hit enter.

Srry.

is the URl for that message thread.
