Thread: Weapon xp rewards... they're a mystery

I went hunting on Endor yesterday, and noticed a very strange phenomenon.


You see, I'm a Master Bounty Hunter / Master Pistoleer, so I figured I'd use a combination of pistols and my trusty LLC to cut a swathe of destruction through the forest.


What I noticed was that I would often get far more xp killing things with my LLC than I would with a pistol.


Examples:


  • Arachne Hatchling: 500xp pistol, 1500xp LLC (3x)

  • Lantern Birds: 1300xp pistol, 2600xp LLC (2x)

  • Arachne Drone: 3000xp pistol, 3000xp LLC (same)

It didn't seem to make much difference how quickly I killed them, what specials I used or how much of each HAMI hit.



A suggestion is thatit has something to do with my accuracy skills, 70 LLC vs 165 pistol, but that doesn't really explain the different ratios.

Presumably other people have noticed this. What's going on?

i've noticed it too, but i still have no idea why it is that way. maybe something to do with the LLC doing more damage/shot that hits than a pistol? i really don't know, that's just a guess....

its most likely because you have 8 pistol boxes (marksman / bh)and only 4 heavy weapons boxes (bh)

Its cause the llc is clasified as a heavy weapon. All heavy weapons such as the llc and most commando weapons yield an increased xp gain. Don't know why its like that for heavy weapons, maybe it was originally to offset the slow speed and poor accuracy.

What's odd, then, is that the ratio is inconsistent, ranging from 1:1 to 1:4 or more sometimes.

When you see the con color (colored circle by a mobs name) are the colors different? If an Arachne Hatchling was white (or a higher con) with your LLC and it was light blue or green (or some lower con) with your pistol, you will recieve more xp because the mob was more difficult for your LLC

Im guessing this is the situation... and when you fought the Arachne Drone they conned the same color

This morning on Dantooine (Kauri), I noticed the same thing, but opposite. I was getting 3k for savage quenker relics with a LLC, but 5k with a T21. I am a MR/Nov BH.

I know its difficult to do sometimes without a pet, droid or group. For Pistols - I found changing distances also modified the XP gain.


It was easy when I was Master CH & Master Pistoleer.

Also keep in mind that your LLC xp caps at around 3k xp per kill, whereas your pistol doesnt cap until around 4k xp per kill. At least, thats what I find as Master Commando, BH 0034.

3k? Ouch! I must admit I haven't noticed what my cap with the LLC is. However, my pistol caps at a little over 5k.

For other XP, the LLC appears to get the Heavy Weapons mod giving it more XP on some lower mobs. If there is a HW mod, can't confirm this, but it does get more XP on some things.


I have noticed this as well. I have not paid much attention to the differences. I just kill whatever is holding the materials I want.







So heavy weapons get a lower cap but a higher xp award. Does anyone else think this is crazy?

I think this is true for most HW, as master commando I cap at 3k with my flamer and acid rifle, not sure about a launcher pistol... but who uses those anyway

the xp you get from killing mobs is based on the damage you do to the mob.....the AP of your weapon and the resist and vulnerablities of the mobs play a part on how much damage you are able to inflict on the target. A t21 has AP3 and if you attack a mob with any kind of energy resist you will get the bonus damage from the AP3 of the weapon. A LLC has AP2 (I think, been a while since I've looked at one) and no pistols have higher than AP1.....then theres the fact that the damage ranges on heavy weapons are significantly higher than pistols, carbs, and normal rifles. As for a t21, it should be classified as a heavy weapon in my opinion.....all the stats on it points towards being a heavy weapon..


So higher damaging weapons vs a mob with a higher resistance to that weapons damage type seem to play a big part in the xp you get. It seems to be more xp with eachlevel of increasing damage that you can do.


For one thing, I've killed manyhigh level mobs with 30k HAM that end up giving me 3k -4k xp and then I gokill a piket with 9k HAM with the exact same weapon and special and will get 3k - 5k xp. It's not always like that but ithas happened enough that I notice it.


So it's my theory that the min/max damage of the weapon,DPS you do, the AP of the weapon, the mods of the special you use and the level of AR and resistances the mob have play a big part in how much xp you'llget. Also, the stat effects play a small part in the damage you do because a KD opponent (double damage)and a stunned opponent (their defenses drop slightly)take more damage then if they are not KD or stunned.


But from my observations, overall damage that you inflict (including blocked damage)plays a heavy roll in how much xp you get more so than how much HAM the mob has
