At FanFest the developers said they didn't understand the sliding while sitting issue and they said they specifically set a location lockdown when someone uses the /sit command. I also heard the Developers state that there is a 15 meter margin of error between where the client and where the server thinks the player is located in the world at any given moment. Using the /sit command locks a character down where the server thinks the character is located, which is typically anywhere from 1 to 50 meters away from where ALL the clients think that character is located. I believe that many of us would also tell you that the phenomenon only happens when sitting, not when meditating or knealing.
Given these two variables combined and other observed information it seems to me the solution is obvious, remove the code that locks the character position down when sitting.
At least try it and see what happens.

That makes sense... the "sit 'n slide" phenomenon is probably related to all the other issues like "creatures warping away when near death" and other server/client character location miscommunications; unattackable lairs, hitting but not doing damage in JTL, "out of range/You can't see that object" problems, etc.
All I can say is that, given it takes up to 10 seconds before the server tells the client where the character is located, is that the server code needs to be updated to send that information back to the client *much* more often.

Ummm. This is SOE. You really think it would be just a "5 minute job"? Seriously. Ask yourself that question after you look back at all the little things that everyone said would be a "5 minute job"

I would HOPE that it would be no more than 5 minutes... and all the time spent on it would be only to figure out where the code was. Removing it temporarily would take no more than 10 seconds, unless SOE actually uses gorillas to do the coding.

What could be happening is like the devs said its a difference between where the server thinks you are and where you actually are, the /sit commands as already stated locks you to a position, but which one?
Maybe sometimes you sit down and you get to locked to the clients coordinates but other times you get locked to the servers coodinates and are dragged kicking and screaming to your new location.
Removing the lockdown may improve the situation as you are no longer being dragged back to where the server thinks you should be.
You can see this client position and server position sometimes when you are following someone and they seem to run into a wall still running on the spotonly a second later to suddenly appear in the room.

So let me get this straight...
When we walk, run, kneel, meditate we are NOT 'locked down' to any specific location and don't slide around the place.
When we sit the devs have come up with a special piece of code to 'lock down' our location and we slide around the place.
Maybe I'm being stupid but yeah remove the 'lock down & slide about' code.
