On my first mission I'm told to patrol waypoints but I run into 3 rebel fighters and blast em to no avail. I die everytime. Am I supposed to fight these guys or run?

If this is your first mission it sounds like your running into some random spawn. If the fighters all have solid red boxes around them then they are part of teh mission and you may have to somehow shoot them down, but tier 3 sounds too high fortier 1 missions. If all else fails get a good buddy to fly your wing and help you out.

If you died right away in the first mission it means :

1)You were either not paying attention

2)Lag (not likely because even so you would still have a chance to fight in the lag)

3)Ran into spawn points

4)Your mission was in a spawn point

5)You were not trying
