you need to use the ranged attack (the red cross hair) with a ranged weapon, and the melee hit with a melee weapon.

could it have been that you where trying to use that attack while equiping a melee weapon (or no weapon at all)?

Also, you can still use CTRL+K to default attack.

No, something has changed, I think on Saturday. I no longer auto-attack and have to hit my attack key to use my default attack, its very annoying!

The /attack icon (the red crosshair) is gone from my command list. Oddly enough, its still on my toolbar but woun't work with the auto attck (CRTL and click the tool bar) in game. I see the timer run . . but i don't attack. It does work when i hit it manually.

Any help for someone who is getting a finger cramp from hitting a funtion key lol

Put either Ranged Attack or Melee Attack on your hotbar then CTRL-LeftClick on it, a little tick symbol will appear in the icons upper left cornerand that will then be you default attack. You can make any of your attacks the default though, not just the basic ones.
