I read a number of threads and this point wasn't too clear.
So say this week I unlocked the Ranged Accuracy. Can I unlock Melee Speed without completing the Ranged Accuracy branch when the cycle shifts?
Thanks

The way it seems to work (although this is second-hand knowlege) is that you do the quest to unlock the branch, and this can only be done during the particular village phase. You then can convert xp to train boxes in that branch. The training can be done during any phase. When the cycle shifts, I believe you can go unlock another branch, and then be able to convert xp and train boxes in both unlocked branches.
The village cycle gating seems to be related only to unlocking the branches (only so many branches can be unlocked in a given cycle, and you can only unlock one branch per cycle). The training can be done as you accumulate xp for any unlocked branch.
Note: this is just what I've gathered from reading forum posts, along with some educated guesses. I don't have access to the village with any of my characters. I may have misunderstood, or read wrong information.

I have a question I hope somebody can answer.
I went and did the patrol missions and finished the first 10, to unlock.
I then went to convert XP and realised my converted xp was not going into my ranged accuracy box but instead was going into the novice combat prowess box.now my question is this.....
will i have to redo the patrols when phase 1 rolls round again? orwill ranged accuracybe available to me once i have converted enough XP for novice combat prowess?
and if i have lessed up totally why is it that the NPC even allowed me to do the missions if I had'nt qualified by getting novice first?

And phases are 3-weeks apart? 1st phase I'm assuming started when Pub 10 came out (Aug 31)?

Once the branch is unlocked, it's unlocked. You won't have to redo any missions. The missions give you access to the branches. It would be possible for you to train every novice box and be unable to train in any of the branches if you didn't do missions or if you weren't given free unlocks through hologrinding, but of course there would be no point to that.
When you have enough experience to purchase your novice box, then you anything you earn can be applied to what you've unlocked. You're on the right track.

You can unlock the branches without training the novice box.
You can also train in the novice box without unlocking any of the branches.
FYI: The guy who converts xp is not the same guy who trains. I just figured that out a few nights ago when I couldn't figure out how to train the novice box.
