i read alot of posts about how folks roleplay to the fullest. i also on the same note read a few posts of folks daying that you can fully roleplay cause there are so many folks wanting to be elit d00dz or Roxxorz in their gameplay. i was curious as to what you the player base think of the idea of having a roleplay server. EQ had one. DaoC had a great one. The Euros have a server...ie. listed in server selection screen as Euro. Why not make a Roleplay server for the extreme roleplay experience. i admit when i played EQ and DaoC i made a character on the roleplay server but rarely played those toons. Too much " Thees" and "Ye are a ...." was a little silly after a while and folks were intent of bashing you if you were all "Make great haste. Thou shall fell the wrath" I did play the roleplay swervers SOME on these games but it kinda was annoying with all the grammer. BUT SWG is a game NOT set in the "Thee Thou" era and would actually be a server that i would love to play. Where everyone was fully immersed in the game line. The DaoC servers that were roleplay were heavily filled with folks that new the content and talked in a manner of the current timeframe of the game ie. saying they do something in the name of and i think as cheesy as i thought the Daoc roleplay swerver was....a SWG roleplay server would be awesome!

So what are your thoughts? Sure alot of folks are inherintly roleplaying on every server...I know from my Intrepid gaming experience ive met alot of crafters that simply have high prices on there vendor ...have backpack set on vendor titled FAQ to my cutomers. In the descrition of the backpack it states "though im a merchant and supply goods for my living i also support and try to help my fellow rebel..contact me if your rebel for a list of prices for my brethren Rebels" or something to that effect.

Personally i'd love a roleplay server.

Discuss.

EQ had one for 6 months before SOE dissolved Verrant and started making sweeping changes. The change with that one May patch was profound and made it into just a "special rules" server with only a couple rules different from the other servers and nothing to encourage or foster roleplay. It was rumored the change was to bring more players to FV which I find ludicrous since most FVers, even that early, had at least 2 accounts and played -only- on that server. However, I will admit that even 2 years later, FV wasn't nearly as bad for RPers than most of the rest of the servers (i.e. RPers could find other RPers and didn't -often- get griefed for RPing).

In SWG, they went a different route. From the first day of release, they had an Unofficial Roleplay Recommended server, Starsider, which -quickly- filled up (a lot of the first people on Starsider were from FV, so I heard a lot about it on the FV boards *chuckle*). The second wave of server starts brought the 2nd Unofficial Roleplay Recommended server, Kettemoor. However, jsut as they mixed the PvPers up on to all servers (EQ also had 3 PvP servers), they really didn't want to "seperate" the RPers from the "regular" players. You can find thriving RP communities on each server, if you really want to find them.

I am an RPer. On FV, I got a reputation of being a pretty deeply entrenched RPer. I don't RP much on the boards and don't participate in scripted RP, I RP in-game, letting my character be who she is.

Since Tess is an armorsmith (and one of the best on Kette, if what I am told is correct), I deal with non-RPers as much as RPers. I RP even with those who don't, even if they don't realise it. In the real world there are people who have speech impediments, so that's how Tess sees d00d-speak *smirk*. As for her knowledge of the numbers of armorsmithing, in my opinion, of course she would know them and be able to recite them. It's part of her job. Armorsmithing is mathematics jsut as a lot of engineering jobs are in -this- world.

As for RP dying... people leave games for many reasons.

I left EQ not because of the rise of d00dism (though it was linked to my real reason), I left because there was no way I could continue to do anything in the game without spending real life money for in-game things or associating with those who had. I think that's sad... it depressed me more than anything else. The lewt-based mechanics and the auction sites (and what was left of FV's "special rules" which were -easily- circumvented) created the situation and it was perpetuated by those players desperate for insta advancement, all reward no risk.

But... as for a single RP server. No, it's not a good idea. The RPers flocked to the 2 at the beginning and spilled over on to the others when those filled. If you have a server set to be an Official RP server, unless you have checks for RP (and who is to be the judge on the "right" kind of RP?) you will have non-RPers flocking there, too, in an intent to have a low-pop server to play with (that's one of the things that happened to FV, even from day one).

There are three very active role-play communities on Farstar

Haven (On Corellia)

Phoenix (on Rori)

and

Be-Serat Slaret (On Tat)

And all three interact with cross city plots.

think there is about 80+ (active) role-players who play together

Whilst a dedicated roleplayer server would be nice, its a little late in to be implimenting it now I think

Tarquinas was the "unofficial" RP server up until recently. Our forums have RPs stickied at the top. Most of our better RPs left due to the same reasons everyone else is bailing. Most have said they will be back for JTLS or the combat balance. Might be a server to look into.
