Can anyone give me a quick explaination of how the ranking works....what does the swg tag beside my name mean? what about the actual ranks...e.i. swg petty officer. Or can you refer me to the info I'm looking for?

Ignore the bit about "star ranks", that's a leftover from before they removed the star system from the forums. If you meet the time& post count requirements for a rank, that's what's displayed. There does seem to be some lag between meeting the requirements and getting the new rank, I suspect the ranks are only updated when the forum servers are taken down for maintenance (seems to once or twice a week in the wee hours of the morning).

I think the "swg" tags come with certain ranks, but I'm not sure what those are.

There are also some "special" ranks like "{prof} correspondant", "Blue Glowie" (ex-correspondant), and "Interior decorator" (for winners of the Home show contests).
