This a repost from another part of the forum so I apologize.
I hope you enjoy!
Ok true believers, I have an idea to solve the 'everybody wearing composite armor' issue that seems to plague us. It's not exactly the best idea, but I'd like you're opinion on it.
First: When an Armorsmith craft's an armor, what she would be crafting is the stats, not the armor itself. This means that if you were creating a set of armor on line with the current composite, or Tantel or padded or what have you, it would basically be JUST the stats. Encumberance, Armor value, the whole nine yards would all be just as they are now.
Second: Include an option to change the AVATAR of the armor. So, theoretically, you could have what looks like Ubese armor, but has the stats for tantel or composite. This would preserve what game balance there is, yet provide for more variety. Lets face it, Nothing beats a suit of high resist Composit armor, but it's not exactly very cool looking, and in what is supposed to be a vast universe, you see way too much of it (note: the avatar could only be selected at armor creation). This will also cut down on the problem of vet players picking on new players based on what armor they see the poor noob wearing. A griefer will think twice before shooting someone if that Chitin they're wearing might very well be %80 resit...
Third: Assuming the Devs take my above suggestion to heart, they could include MANY more armor variations. If the devs can't think up any new armor designs, they could have a concept art contest, pick the best 10-20, and poof! you not only have a new armor system that makes for more variety, you also have a whole community event that everyone can get involved in! All WITHOUT making the game EVEN HARDER THAN IT ALREADY IS!! (I dunno though... I kinda think itll be funny to be a master commando getting my butt whipped by a 50k ham Ewok with board with a nail in it... *grin*)
Fourth: For those hardcore Star Wars Fanatics (of which I am one) In the Star Wars reality, there exists more variety than could possibly be expressed by 5 (9 if you count bone, ris, mando and bountyhunter) Armors. For those of you who will surely bleat "but that isn't in the movies!!". SHUT UP! Twi'leks weren't in the movies till episode six! (yes I realize they were in episode 1, and 2, but I'm talking real world chronology). very movie that comes out has something new in it BECAUSE one man can't possibly think of everything that could possibly in a possible galaxy (can I fit one more possible in there? Possibly!!)! That's just the way it is. There are already several things that don't jive with the movies, but make sence anyway, or at the very least are entertaining, or fall in line with the EU (I point to the Dathomir Sarlaac as a prime example. Heck, I point to DATHOMIR as a prime example!).
Anyway, I do hope I have helped.

I think you've got some good ideas. My belief is that armorsmiths should be able to make bone, mabari, tantel have stats that compete with composite and ubese, if only to solve the "problem" that is everybody and theirunclerunning around in composite armor. More variety is good, and it is nice to see new armors being added, even if they are very hard to obtain.
One problem with these ideas is that it would be hard to categorize them by effectiveness - right now, you pretty much know you're getting better armor when you see Composite on a vendor, and no matter how well it's crafted, Mabari isn't going to do much for you. If you could have any stats on any kind of armor, it would be tough to find what you're looking for, whether it be low-end and cheap or highly effective and very expensive.
Off track, my favorite kind of armor can't be crafted and isn't that good, but as far as appearance goes (obviously appearance means something to me), I love it. It's the Marauder armor you get from the little themepark at the Marauder stronghold. I only wish it came with a full set.
