Thread: Ok, I built a harvester, yay!! Now what...
Build a wind harvester deed and awind survey device, find a nice spot with lots of wind, and plunk down the wind harvester. It will churn out wind energy units which you can transfer to your mineral harvester to power it.
One thing that a friendly fellow harvester told me was to search for an area that has decents amount of several different minerals. You will want something that has atleast 40% or greater in 3 or more minerals/metals. That way as you operate your harvester you can switch to different metals etc. I have a great location on Bloodfin outside of Theed on Naboo. High concentration of copper with moderate of at least 4 other metals. My wind generator is close by but in a lower yield area. I found also that having it close by is better than making a long hike to a high yield area. I made a waypoint too at my harvester area so I would lose it

Great Info, thanks!! I tried to build my first collector last night, stayed up late to finish getting the steel and low grade ore to make the darn thing and had a critical failure..D'oh!!
I'll try again this evening after work...Any suggestions on Corellian placement or a good place to harvest steel / ore?

Gryhm - on Eclipse/Corellia, go south-southeast from Coronet. You'll see a rather large area where everyone is mining right now. It's only a couple minutes outside town.
Your harvesters need power, but it doesn't work like you might think. The power harvestors don't actually need to be anywhere near the resource harvestors (though the closer they are, the less you have to run). Instead, a wind or solar power harvestor harvests power "units" just like a resource harvestor does, and dumps them in it's hopper, just like a resource harvestor does. You then take the power units your harvestor has accumulated, and then go click on add power (or insert power, or whatever- I don't remember exactly what it's called) on your resource harvestor. Don't be a dope like me and build your power harvestor right next to your resource harvestor, and then look for some way to connect them- it doesn't work, and moving a building is not cheap.
Here's what I recommend. Do it over a 2 day period. First, get your power harvestor, get a survey tool for whatever type power it is, and survey to find the highest concentration you can, just like you do when surveying sample resources by hand. Put your power harvestor there. Pre-pay a couple days maintenance, select the resource, and turn it on, then let it run over night. The next day, get your resource harvestor(s), survey to find a high concentration of whatever resource you want to harvest, and plunk it down there. Closer to the power harvestor is better, because you have to get the power from your power harvestor and run it to your resource harvestor yourself. Technically, it doesn't even have to be on the same planet, but if it's not at least in the same region, you'll have a long trip to make everytime you need to add more power to your resource harvestor. Another good thing to do is try to find more than one type of resource (of the type your harvestor can gather, of course) that are close together, and put your harvestor in close proximity to all of them. That way, when you finish harvesting one material, you don't need to move your harvestor to go for the next one. It can take a lot of time to find a good nest of different resources concentrations, of course, and since you can't build within 1024 meters of town, you'll be out in the wild the whole time- make sure to keep a sharp eye for those red dots on your radar. Once your harvestors are running, you can just visit them every couple days (or more, if you decide to pay farther in advance) to add power, pay maintenance and empty hoppers.
Great news, thanks for the tip. Can't wait to get home and start farming...
