Thread: noob question about grinding

I'm a novice brawler, unarmed 3, going for unarmed 4 and eventually TKA. Now, I figured it would be easier to do this with someone else, so I met this guy, seemed nice enough and so we meet outside Mos Eisly and I started fighting some rat. Anyhow, I had invited him to join in a group and he accepted. So here I was, I killed this rat and he got pissed off, asked me if I was going to just grind by myself, and then he just went off by himself. Did I do something wrong? I figured that he was supposed to follow behind me close and attack whatever I attacked and I would do vice-versa. I even told this guy that I have only been playing for 4 days, while he said he'd been playing for a couple months now.

Maybe I'm wrong, but isn't grinding all about killing everything in sight, for hours at a time? Is there some special way to grind with someone else? Is there some special attack I'm supposed to use?

THanks!

Should I grind a new Jedi to 90 again since that's all there is to do SOE?

Yes I'm a respec and an NGE Jedi. Yes, I hate NGE. Yes I agree, pre-CU FTW!

Grinding with others doesn't work too well unless you're on the same level as the person you're grinding with. It's best to grind by yourself. Just get buffed and do missions until you've reached Novice TK.

Get buffed and go find quenker lairs.

1 lair will get you unarmed IV and a couple more will get you novice TK. 1 buff is all you need for these. Once you get to TKN, you wont know what hit you

try and find some sped sliced vibroknucklers too, as the speed mod sticks even though you're not qualifed to use it

Thanks starcloud for that answer. It's good to hear a helpful answer vs the common laugh about the new players or trash talking norm. This is not an easy game to get the hang of when new as there aren't hordes of other new players to meet up with in game or new player forums to ask questions in.

As far as I can tell, all I can think of is that some major miscommunication happened between you and him, probably having to do with your definition of 'grinding' vs. his definition.

Grinding xp for a combat profession in Star Wars: Galaxies has generally come to mean taking destroy missions from mission terminals, not just cutting a swathe across the Tatooine landscape. :-)

He might have expected that he, being the more experienced player, would take the lead and show you where the mission terminals are, how getting missions in the same direction speeds up the grind, and so forth. That way, you're not just killing for xp, you're killing for xp and credits.

When you started just attacking whatever was closest, he was probably surprised and didn't think to tell you what he had expected to happen. His was animmature response, but hey, it happens to all of us sometimes.

You didn't do anything wrong, you just didn't know what he expected out of a "grind" session.
