Thread: when does dodge, melee def, and ranged def cap?

Not quite. The 125 cap includes both skill boxes and tapes. So if you have +120 melee defense from your profession template and +10 melee defense tapes, you are only "really" at +125 (although your character sheet will still say +120/+130). The second number (skill mods + SEAs) is what gets checked and capped.
Food can give another +25 to ranged or melee defense (not really a cap, just a limitation on how high the food can be experimented), and a Master Squad leader gives group members +30 ranged and melee defense, so in theory you could have 125 + 25 + 30 = 180 defense.

No, only dodge, counterattack, block, melee defense, ranged defense have an "outside enforced" cap. Other skills may "cap" simply due to skill point availability, and +25 is a hard cap from SEAs, but that just occurs by the nature of a skill-based system.
If you've got a link to dev comments with a differing view, though, I'd love to see it.

lol i didn't know that tapes didn't add onto your skillset... i was under the impression that dodge/counterattack/meleedefense etc. skill tapes added on top of what you had up to 25 and superceded the cap

Yes, some kind of link to a definitive statement from the developers stating how their game works would remove a lot of guesswork and frustration from the playerbase. Ok, i've got some FS skill. Does it actually work? +3 to accuracy/box seems a little low.
