There is a common misconception in the online gaming community that 56k'ers are not jumping on the high-speed bandwagon, when the truth is a lot of us would, if we reasonably could. The biggest hurdle is LOCATION LOCATION LOCATION...We can all agree that High Speed is the way to connect online, but unfortunately all connections aren't created equal. I could buy an expensive satellite setup, which would solve my dialup 5 hour disconnect problem (yes, for me it's 5 hours and that's still not enough time)--however, satellite cost more per month, and is nowhere near as fast as it claims ( or so I've read), plus it is NOT an option if you do online gaming...yes, that's right, for online gaming--DIALUP beats satellite...so it simply is NOT an option for my particular situation..same for wireless services.
It never fails that when someone mentions being on dialup, people tell them to get high speed...it's like DSL/Cable users think those services are available everywhere--in some countries that may be so, but drive outside of your urban/suburban environment and you'll notice large stretches of rural areas inbetween those cities--guess what?...people live there too
...and amazingly enough, those people outside of the city want high speed cable/dsl too!!!!!!
There is a URL to the downloads--someone posted them before but I can't remember--but If I remember correctly 'download resume' was not supported, so my download program was no help
...I actually had my brother (who lived in Austin at the time) download patch 11 for me with his high speed, then burned it to a CD for me--but now my brother and his family have built themselves a house out here on my family's property and are stuck on dialup with the rest of us country bumpkins!!!![]()
....so now I have 3 accounts that I can't play because I can't update...what am I to do?....cancel accounts? Guess so, unless someone in SOE enables some sort of download management for us 56k'ers--which is what I thought that BITS thing was about...what happened there?
