Is it possible to download the patch files without using the launchpad.

It takes 3+ hours with a dial up connection and I get disconnected every 2 hours

Thanks

There is a common misconception in the online gaming community that 56k'ers are not jumping on the high-speed bandwagon, when the truth is a lot of us would, if we reasonably could. The biggest hurdle is LOCATION LOCATION LOCATION...We can all agree that High Speed is the way to connect online, but unfortunately all connections aren't created equal. I could buy an expensive satellite setup, which would solve my dialup 5 hour disconnect problem (yes, for me it's 5 hours and that's still not enough time)--however, satellite cost more per month, and is nowhere near as fast as it claims ( or so I've read), plus it is NOT an option if you do online gaming...yes, that's right, for online gaming--DIALUP beats satellite...so it simply is NOT an option for my particular situation..same for wireless services.

It never fails that when someone mentions being on dialup, people tell them to get high speed...it's like DSL/Cable users think those services are available everywhere--in some countries that may be so, but drive outside of your urban/suburban environment and you'll notice large stretches of rural areas inbetween those cities--guess what?...people live there too...and amazingly enough, those people outside of the city want high speed cable/dsl too!!!!!!

There is a URL to the downloads--someone posted them before but I can't remember--but If I remember correctly 'download resume' was not supported, so my download program was no help...I actually had my brother (who lived in Austin at the time) download patch 11 for me with his high speed, then burned it to a CD for me--but now my brother and his family have built themselves a house out here on my family's property and are stuck on dialup with the rest of us country bumpkins!!!

....so now I have 3 accounts that I can't play because I can't update...what am I to do?....cancel accounts? Guess so, unless someone in SOE enables some sort of download management for us 56k'ers--which is what I thought that BITS thing was about...what happened there?

keep heart dial uppers.. I recently had the same problem I moved to Poland and had to wait 2 months for a decent 2megconnection.

Patch 11 nearly killed me 29hrs it took to update by dial up.. a nice bloke in CSR land gave me the swg patch www site and I downloaded most of it from there until after 3 days of disconnections I got angry and made my arms 6 inches longer by carrying my PC down to the local cyber cafe and paying them an hourly rate to let me piggy back onto thier net.. you can try that..

oh and ignore the silly little american boys here they think everyone in the world revolves around america and is as spoilt and has disgustingly obcene amounts of money and hotdogs as they do.

To be honest I actually found dial up had no problems or difference in lag on swg just longer load in times between shuttles..lag seems to be a RAM issue due to graphics leakage..

...that is the link to the thread that helped me...btw, the 'resume' feature on my download manager didn't work til I updated it--So as long as you have a download program, that thread should help with your disconnect problem
